Qaiser: You are right. When I took my TV just a decade back I wanted to pay the duty on the set which I had used for six months. But the the custom officer openly told me "is mein mera to koi faida nahin ho raha hai." In the end I took out the TV by paying just 40% of the duty value. Yes, it is a headache carrying a TV or the likes to Pakistan. You have a problem of weight. You also run the risk of it getting damaged in transit. One can find one with a warranty in the local market there at almost the same price.
IF IT IS TABLE KAY OOPER....THEN FIRST CUSTOM OFFICER WILL LEVY CUSTOM DUTY....FOR 40 INCHES...HE WILL MAKE IT 46 INCHES (IF YOU DID NOT CORRECT IT, IT IS YOUR MISTAKE) THEN EXCISE DUTY, THEN SOME LOCAL TAXES WHICH MIGHT INCLUDE EAST PAKISTAN FLOOD RELIEF FUND TAX...AFTER PAYING ALL THE TAXES AND DUTIES, YOU WILL FIND ,THE SAME MODEL, IN THE MARKET, CHEAPER THAN IT COSTED YOU.( BECAUSE OF TRANSPORTATION. YOU FIND IT IS NOT WORKING...THIS IS ANOTHER BONUS TO YOUR HEADACHE)...ALL THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH ME..GOOD LUCK TO YOU.
Brother please verify before you travel with it,because what i heard that they asking custom even on used one and it is 45 % of the invoice price, one of my friend took one broken lcd ,i mean it was not working ,he want to repair it in pakistan, but custom people not allowing him to pass it without duty, and at last he thrown it at airport.
one more thing is that if you are sending money to pakistan, then make remittance card from pakistan consulate, with remittance card ,a fixed amount of duty relaxation is there, depends upon card type (silver, gold or gold plus).
If its just one, you just have to declare it for personal use and then you dont have to pay anything. Make sure your luggage does not have any other electronic item at that time.
You can also open it here and pack it again. Remove the stickers etc inside and declare it as used as well. If they ask, tell them you were using it here for a couple of months and now you dont need it here any more so you brought it back to Pakistan.
However no duty on new screen as well since you are taking it for your personal use and not for resale purpose.
