QEERI procures Eternal Spire TCLF to enhance temperature coefficient measurements
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) had recently obtained the high-end Eternalsun Spire Temperature Controlled Lab Flasher (TCLF) for its state-of-the-arts Photovoltaic (PV) reliability laboratory.
The TCLF, Eternalsun Spire long pulse xenon flasher, will provide QEERI with key data and performance control over the 800MW Al Kharsaah solar park, ensuring optimization and long-term quality control of the solar plant.
Moreover, it will enable them to potentially achieve the lowest temperature coefficient measurement.
As Qatar experiences high temperature and solar irradiation that exceeds the Standard Test Conditions (STC) of 1000 W/m2 and 25°C, there is a need to gain a better understanding of module performance at different temperature and irradiance levels which simulate real desert conditions.
The test run by the QEERI will provide crucial data and will benefit its clients through the improvement of accuracy in energy yield predictions, adding certainty to their module selection process and allowing researchers to explore a wide range of topics, specifically in relation to performance and degradation of modules at non-standard test condition.
Moreover, long-term quality control of modules can be tested, research, and assured, ensuring that the performance degradation of modules meets the 20 to 30-year warranted value.
Mr. Amir A. Abdallah, a scientific researcher at QEERI, said, “After carefully investigating our options in the market, we chose the TCLF system from Eternalsun Spire to bring our laboratory to the forefront of high-quality testing of different PV module technologies at non-standard test conditions.”
Mr. Alex Goscomb, sales manager of Eternalsun Spire, stated, “We are proud of our collaboration with QEERI, and we look forward assisting them to achieve their goal of becoming a leading solar research institute and progressing the implementation of solar.”
The national research institute aims to be a lead Qatar in the fields of environment and energy, and become the science and technology reference at a national and international level.
