Is King Tutankahmen’s tomb hiding the ‘discovery of the century’?
The Pyramids, ancient Egyptian mummies and large treasures have always captured the world's imagination.
When British archeologists Howard Carter and George Herbert uncovered King Tutankahmen’s tomb in 1922, it was hailed as the discovery of a lifetime. Nothing else could even compare, until probably now.
It has now come to light that there might be something hiding behind the King’s ancient tomb.
The Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh El Damaty announced today that thermal and radar scans of the tomb have revealed at least two secret hidden rooms.
The rooms, located behind the north and west walls of the king's 3,300-year-old burial chamber, is believed to contain untouched artifacts that have eluded Egyptologists and tomb raiders alike.
And you know what is even more exciting? It could be the burial place of Queen Nefertiti, one of the most powerful female rulers of ancient Egypt.
The scans suggest that the objects behind the wall seem to be of both metal and organic origin.
There may even be a mummy concealed behind what British archaeologist Nicolas Reeves has called ‘ghost doors.’
Reeves had first announced the presence of these doors last year, which he told National Geographic were plastered and painted over.
His announcement was initially met with skepticism, but new radar scans by Japanese researcher Hirokatsu Watanabe indicate that Reeves may have been right all along.
“When we find Nefertiti, I think it’ll be more important that the discovery of King Tutankhamun himself,” El Damaty told CNN.
Reeves and Watanabe say the next step is to figure out how to excavate and explore the secret rooms without damaging the outer chambers.
Whatever lurks behind the walls, it's “very important for Egyptian history and for all of the world,” El Damaty said.
“It could be the discovery of the century.”

WT: Are you saying that Hollywood's portrayal was off the mark
Cleopatra was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a family of Macedonian Greek origin that ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great's death during the Hellenistic period. The Ptolemies, throughout their dynasty, spoke Greek and refused to speak Egyptian, which is the reason that Greek as well as Egyptian languages were used on official court documents such as the Rosetta Stone. By contrast, Cleopatra did learn to speak Egyptian and represented herself as the reincarnation of an Egyptian goddess, Isis.
That is close enough to the historical truth.
WT: I thought both she and Ptolemy XIII were born in Alexandria...
Anyway, Elizabeth Taylor looked like a goddess in the movie
Known is hand! Unknown is an ocean!
No, she was a refugee from Greece!
