
Xavi, Bounedjah and Carzola shine as Al Sadd dominate 2020-21 QFA Awards

League champions Al Sadd dominated the Qatar Football Association (QFA) awards for the 2020-21 season, having won three of the six categories up for grabs.
The awards, announced by the Board of Trustees of QFA Award over the weekend, were for the “Football for All Award,” “Best Referee Team Award,” “Mansour Muftah Award for Top Scorer,” “Best Under-23 Player Award,” “Best Coach Award,” and “Best Player Award.”
Al Sadd's Xavi Hernandez won the Best Coach Award, garnering the highest percentage of votes in the final voting process, while Santi Cazorla was voted the Best Player of the season.
Striker Baghdad Bounedjah won the Mansour Muftah Award for the leading goal-scorer with his unmatchable 21 goals for Al Sadd, who are also the Qatar Cup champions and the Emir Cup finalist, during the just-concluded season.
Xavi was up against Qatar SC's Younes Ali and Al Ahli's Nebojsa Jovovic in the final list for the award, while Carzola was nominated alongside teammate Bounedjah and Al Duhail's Edmilson Junior in the final process.
Participants in the voting process include QNB Stars League team coaches, Qatar national team coach, Qatar Olympic team coach, Team managers, media representatives, representative of QFA, representative of QSL, president and board members of the QFA Awards Board of Trustees, a number of other bodies, such as Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar Players Association, Aspire and Old Players Committee.
Meanwhile, the "You Are Important" initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Interior (Stadium Security department under Establishments and Authorities Department, won the Football for All Award. The Football for All award is presented to organizations, groups or individuals making a significant contribution to promote football in Qatar.
In the Best Referee Team Award, Abdulrahman Al Jassim, who has been a full international referee for FIFA since 2013 and was a Video Assistant Referee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, won the Best Referee.
Khaled Ayed Khalaf was named the Best First Assistant Referee, while Majed Al Shammari won the Best Second Assistant Referee, and Meshari Ali Al Shammari, the Best Video Assistant Referee.
For the Best Under-23 Player Award, Al Gharafa's Homam Al Ameen edged out Mahmoud Abunada of Al Arabi and Al Ahli's Abdulrasheed Ibrahim in the final voting process to claim the award.
Al Ameen, the promising left-back, who also plays for the Qatar national team, is one of the distinguished players in the country. He is regarded as the one to watch in the future because of his exciting game and physique. He received the U-23 Best Player of the Month Award twice in the QNB Stars League during the 2020-21 season.
A total of 55 forms were sent out to participants in the voting process, and 45 of them were approved, while ten forms were rejected for being incomplete. It was also decided to cancel the QFA Award ceremony this season, while the winners were announced through the official website and social media platforms of QFA and Qatar Stars League.
