
Artemiev emerges victorious at Katara International Chess Tournament 2021

Russian GM Vladislav Artemiev spectacularly defeated American GM Andrew Tang as the two faced off in a thrilling online bullet tiebreaker for the grand prize of $4000.
The Katara International Chess 2021 that took place online has come to its conclusion as over 4,000 spectators tuned in to witness the two finalists battle it out as they played from their respective countries.
Both grandmasters, who were former young prodigies, played a total of 11 bullets games throughout the tournament.

Locked at 6.5-6.5, both players were forced to face-off for a tiebreak after winning five games each and scoring two draws.
Artemiev emerged victorious winning 7.5-6.5 and claimed the grand prize, while Tang was awarded $2000.
GM Andrew Tang had also defeated the defending champion and 7-time world champion Magnus Carlsen (7-4) during the tournament's semi-final stage.
Moreover, GM Vladislav Artemiev had defeated Alexander Grischuk (7-1) during the semi-final stage.
Speaking on the success of the Katara International Chess Tournament, General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti expressed his delight in successfully hosting the tournament which featured the participation of many top-ranked international players.
“Katara as a cultural institution has always been to support and which also reflect the State of Qatar’s interest in sport," he added.
