The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) announced that the 2021 Qatar International Baja will be a round of the FIM Bajas World Cup and will take place from September 30 to October 2.

Qatar's inaugural FIM Bajas Cup counting round, which was originally scheduled for the beginning of April on the FIM calendar, will take place over a compact route built out by the QMMF.

In an 872.44 km route, competitors will face three stages and 504.24 competitive kilometers.

On September 29, administration inspections will take place at Losail Sports Arena, followed by a 6.7 km super special stage at Simasmina on September 30.

The starting order for the initial leg of about 248.80 competitive kilometers on October 1 will be determined by the results of the first stage. This segment begins in Al Jumaliyah and continues through the deserts of north-central Qatar, with one refueling stop around the halfway point.

On October 2, a second selective route of similar length (248.74km) will begin in Al Kharsaah, west of Doha, and travel through the central and southern deserts. It includes a refueling station before ending near Sealine, south of Doha.

Motorcycles up to 450cc (single or twin cylinder, 2T or 4T), as well as quads and SSVs, will be eligible. Riders with motorcycles with engines larger than 450cc will be eligible to race, but will not be able to gain points for the FIM Bajas World Cup in 2021.

Motorcycles, quads, SSVs, and other vehicles will compete in a National category.

For riders competing in the national event, QMMF has developed an intriguing new team concept. A team of two qualifying riders can enter and potentially race individually or together on a motorcycle or quad, as long as both entrants have at least a ‘National' status license.

Each machine must include a road book reader and a mounting bracket to take a Stella GPS unit if a team is employing two machines.

The super special stage will be tackled by one of the team riders, and the concept will then follow a relay format. One rider will tackle around half of the desert selective section to the refueling point each day, with the other taking over for the second half to the finish. Each contestant in a two-rider team will cover around 125 kilometers per day.

The FIM Bajas World Cup has a new format this year, with a series of qualifying events and a final.

Each tournament in the Qualifying Series has a scoring coefficient of 1, with a coefficient of 2 for the final in Portugal in October.

All competitors are eligible to compete in the final if they have completed and scored points in at least one round of the Qualifying Series.

The FIM Bajas World Cup final ranking will be determined by adding the two best finishes from the Qualifying Series to the points granted in the Final.

The new Baja will be held under the chairmanship of QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai, QMMF’s Executive Director Amro Al Hamad and board member Abdulrazaq Al Kuwari.
