no special reason, but the concept works for now :) it's just a food fad. someone thought of it one day, set up shop, kids loved it, then a lot of other similar shops open. someday, interest will drop, most of these shops will close and another new food/drink idea will emerge. currently, pearl milk tea is somewhat being marketed as the anti-starbucks.
it's also pretty popular with teenagers around china, taiwan and some other east asian countries. not sure about the us, canada & europe as qataribound says.
zagu is a brand. it's somewhat similar to your ice blended drink or frapuccino without the whipped cream. it has tapioca balls (hence the pearl/bubble name) or some jelly that you sip with a fat straw to chew while drinking
zagu is also known as bubble tea its very famous in canada, usa, europe and china. its made with tapioca...and yes they will be using real tea...its going to be amazingggggg
so it's zagu that's coming here? i'm a little disappointed. the heyday of the zagu craze was around 15 years ago. it's virtually an endangered franchise. i was very young when i last bought a zagu drink so i wouldn't know, are they using real tea these days? i get the popularity of the pearl/bubble tea fad in the philippines, but there are lots of better options now. like chatime & happy lemon. they're very popular because they taste really good. i recently discovered from them that rock salt & cheese in your chocolate milk drink make it more delicious ^_^
still, i wish you success and i hope you prove me wrong. i hope zagu here tastes better than the ones back home.
