Is there anyone here who surfed in doha before? i am a surfer from manila looking for a place to surf. and is there a water sport store here where you can buy a surfboard new or used?
hahah thanks darkDC...that youtube is me :-) there is surf in qatar but it means you have to be out in the big wind storm when everone else is in their homes!
the ebook requires me to pay via bank transfer. Sorry im not too comfy with that. Also no board here and only a few months left in Qatar anyway. Sorry freakdipo, im sure you understand... good luck with your book
what do you know about surfing? dont put that crap of yours in here unless you can handle your own. by the way there's a Billabong Open every year in manila in case you dont know....
good to get a reply from one of the tankers crew! I saw that in the movie (you know) and seemed fun. I investigated once about doing that on a river but apparently you need a certain speed for the wake and some waterways have speed limits for ships.
Anyway, I wasnt intending to spam the forum neither provide false information, I wouldn't spend my time on that.
This is about proper surfing, no surfing the net or wake riding. You wont regret, guarranteed. It wont be glassy or barreling thats for sure but you'll have fun even with a shortboard, as I did.
If I was there, I bet you'd buy me a beer to hear my surfing stories in Qatar! I'm not there now, so you might as well buy me an ebook!
No ofense mate. I just happened to compile 22 pages of useful information which includes descriptions to access the spots, weather conditions and real own pictures and I though it would be fair to put a small sum for the effort.
Im from texas, im not new to searching for waves that are hard to find and barring some freak-weather I just dont see where it is possible. The bouys never peak and the periods are always way too long.
UnLESS u are talking about Tanker surfing! We did this in the Houston ship channel but it was always hit or miss witout some knowlage of when the tankers were coming and how much weight they were carrying.
Either way IF there really is surf here you should share your info man! It's not like your spot is gonna get blown up by flocks of Qatar surfers... What have you got to lose?
No surf in Qatar =( UAE and Oman have some decent waves. There are a few reefs here that seem to have the potential to throw a decent wave but just not enought movement in the water.
U can wakesurf, most of the people I have wakeboarded with here dont wakesurf but if you have a short board it would be fun to show some boat owner how to do it.
You could go down to the Corniche and wait till they pump out the ground water - quite a gush from there, otherwise, you've come to the wrong sea for surfing!
