Simple solution : Take all the idiots that can't drive to save their lives off the road.

I am so fed up. It takes almost 2 hours to travel from Industrial estate to Doha through Salwa Road. This Midmac or Madmac not only constructing under bridge but also doing construction on left and right side of road. At least finish underground first.
Signals need to be synchronized and computerized so that traffic flows continuously.

i take the public karwa bus and go home with my groceries on it too. it costs only 2.50 from home to work or to city center if you have the bus card. the problem is the schedules are usually not met and i'd be forced to take a cab if the bus doesn't come.
if the shoes i'm wearing on any particular day don't hurt and i don't feel hungry i walk home.
i've always used public transportation and i don't want to alter my lifestyle just because i got here. i have survived so far, but i'm not sure if i can keep this up.
The problem is that many expatriates believe that they are here for life..
Kareena74...groceries? That is where the corner shop comes into play. But the authorities dont want any shops where residents stay... and they plan to move all such bakalas far out...
If you use Rizks' Family Food Facility, then all you have to do is order and they will deliver..
You will then be free to take the metro to Villagio ..
Underground trains, efficient public transports.,..surely Qatar can fund that. Making the petrol more expensive wont really change anything. The working class can afford the Petrol price

Maybe they should make the Corniche a toll road?
Dubai has shown that the public will use public transport if it is of good quality and reasonably priced.
I would like to highlight three reasons of traffic block and some recommendations too.The first reason for the morning and evening traffic jam is the police officers who are stationed especially at the roundabouts. I've been observing the difference since past few months especially when I was trapped in the traffic at the chorniche road close to the roundabouts. Infact, the officers doesn't have an idea how to manage the traffic and there will be a misunderstanding between the drivers and the police officers like "should I go or shouldn't I" as their hand signals are confusing the drivers. They are less oriented and controlling the traffic without knowing the head and tail. I have enjoyed my trip and checked the time difference when the police is not around to control the traffic especially at the corniche road roundabouts. The result is people uses their driving skills and vehicles flows smoothly. There is an automatic control has already been applied on the system that is the individual responsibility and the heavy traffic fines. I think it's enough for an automatic traffic control system and it's already on place. Second thing, Government offices should arrange transportation for their employees too irregardless their nationality (let's say if an office contains 100 Qataris, of course 100 cars will also be there on road, and if the government could provide transportation for them like the Ras Gas, Oryx and Qatar Gas do, there will be an unbelievable change in the traffic block). Also, old vehicles, below 2000 models are also causing traffic blocks. I have witnessed an incident that an old vehicle (below 1998 model I guess) break down on the corniche road and caused 55% traffic block on last Thursday evening. I have just highlighted whatever i have observed and I may be wrong. But it's just my humble suggestion only laa.

When people use metros or buses, how do they do their groceries? I can't imagine carrying so many bags in my hand plus my purse and then walk all the way to the metro and then change stops and then walk home from the station with those bags.. That would be tough..
By the time we leave for work, all the school buses and parents who drop their kids to school would have done so and gone home again to get ready for work or maybe drop their kids and then go straight to their work.

I never owned a car before coming to Doha. I wish that there could be the same public transport system here as there is elsewhere in the world.
The closest a lot of people come to in Doha to public transport is taking a taxi, and ultimately taxis cause congestion, they don't reduce it.
School and work timings should not be the same, if schools start at 7 then work should start at 8 and some companies at 9. This will really help.
City Planners need to balance the city development plans.
1. Residential areas are in south part, north western
of country.
2. Almost all offices are located in Doha City or
northern part of country.
Traffic jams occurring due to peak hours one way directions(city bound in the morning & outward from Doha City in the evening) which is not a balanced planning.
And all round-abouts are also contributors for traffic jams. Town Planners can plan fly-over bridges/sub-ways on all major roads depends on vehicles movement counting and requirement.
Town planners/Designers should take immediate action for on this to reduce pollution and to handle incoming population to the country.
give time frame for big trucks and loaders in passing by the roads in doha...they should be ban between 6:00am - 8:00am and 5:00pm - 7:00pm during peak hours. No need for price hike in petrol. It's only my opinion
All my life I have been walking, riding a bicycle or using public transportation.
Until I came here )-:
build flyovers...LOTS of them, so tat the vehicles can fly instead of running like turtles on roads...
Offices & Schools should be very close to the houses for easy access...:)
Heavy Vehicles should be allowed after Midnight when whole Qatar is asleep....:)
STOP importing new cars....:)

everybody will: i am ready to use a descent public transport that takes me to my exact destination on thursday/fridays and spare me the parking issues.
- costumised maps: at a bus stop ,make it simple: just show the map for this bus stop not for all of doha!
- make it free for some months: when people get used to it and like it, put a fee.
- better bus stops, cooled or at least a fan for summer months.
there are many factors which may be considered for the purpose-
1. shifting of offices from west bay to other lightly populated areas
2. Proper public transport arrangement
3. Limit car ownership to working people in the house
4. Promote car pool culture for one destination
though the above are few possible steps needed to decongest, painstaking efforts are required to implement.
1. Need plate number coding, because there's too much car
2. They should make a bigger roads, 3 lanes only. Buses have different route / road.
3. Proper Public transport
Authorities are waiting for the metro to be ready..later on they have plan to increase the parking fees to push public to utilize the multi_billion project well.
We can call say we want better public transport, but honestly, how many people will themselves want to use it?
It's the kind of thing we all wished everyone else would use, but we still want to drive.
I'd happily pay for petrol at double its current price if it meant that there was less congestion and I wasn't stuck in traffic for 40 minutes to go a few miles.

After they have metro and good public transport
1. More parking fees in public places like shopping centres etc
2. Hike Fuel Prices
3. Reduced charges in public transport.. I heard that it is minimum 10 QR in Karwa Bus where as in taxis also the same which looks stupid for me..

Fubar: good suggestion, before the Qatar Govie increases rates, I think what the Govie of Qatar should do is to introduce alternative methods of transportation like public metros / buses/ Vanpools/ Car Pools/ and better routes for high Occupancy Vehicles.
Make petrol 3 riyals a litre.
Stop expatriates from driving
Provide proper Public Transport!
I think the number one problem that's causing traffic jams are driving schools in doha being so lenient with issueing of fresh car licenses for folks with next to zero driving experience, also the rapidly increasing numbers of new comers in to the city.
