Sneak Peak of InterContinental Octoberfest

Last Tuesday I received an invite by phone to go to Octoberfest tent at Inter Continental Doha on Wednesday. Unfortunately I already have the night planned for dinner at Paloma. It was a farewell dinner for a friend who starts a new adventure in Romania.

Knowing that I will still be going to the same hotel, Cristiana insisted that I have to come down to the tent to say ‘hello’ to her before I go for my dinner.

My Paloma dinner invite was 9pm; I came to the hotel at 8.30pm, parked my car and made my way to the tent. She met me outside tent, signed me in and shows me around the tent.

Someone shouted my name, it was Mr. Suvat, The Thai Ambassador. He introduced me officially to his wife and mentioned about being a 2nd champion at our dart night in our house sometimes back. Although I have met The Thai Ambassador’s wife at the embassy event in Inter Continental Hotel, I never have actually chat with her informally. She came across as a very nice down to earth lady. Until now, I am still deeply impressed with Mr. Suvat and his wife fluency in Indonesian.

I spent few minutes with Mr and Mrs Suvat for a chit chat, then Cristiana whisked me away to sit on her table. “Surprisingly” I sat in front of another QL’er Gypsy who worked for one of the local magazine :D
The Band was good and played a lively music. Please don’t ask what the lyric was, I don’t speak German . At some point one of the band member’s gulping down a big glass of beer and at the then of it he spat it out to the audiences, a lady who sat next to me have warned me before his act. Apparently he did the same ‘spit the beer’ trick last year lol. When telling my husband later, he commented that it was such a waste!!!

My friend rang, to let me know that she couldn’t come down to the table on time. They have been staying in the hotel for the past 5 days and tonight is their last night in Doha. Her husband not back yet so she can’t leave the kid. She would be at least 30 mins late. Oh well … fine by me … don’t mind spending a few mins longer in the tent.

Next was ‘saw-ing’ competition. One big log of wood, two muscular guys competing cutting the wood from each end. No idea what the significant is, must be a German thing ….. maybe making sawdust for the bar floor to soak up the beer :)

Michael, the hotel general manager came around to say ‘hello’. I said the hotel staff looks very German with their fancy dress. And he agreeing saying how scary, because even the Italian looks like one. Good humour eh …lol (Cristiana is Italian :D)

Then about 9.30pm sms came into my mobile, said that my friend already sitting in Paloma waiting for me with some other people. In the same time 3 or 4 band members were standing up in the table playing their music alongside with the dancing audiences.

I wait for their last song finish, saying bye bye to Gypsy and Cristiana and make my way up to the Paloma.
On the way out I saw another friend with her husband that suppose to be in Paloma as well. She told me that will be another 30 mins before she join us upstairs. It was only over 2 hrs later she turn up… we teased her she should be fluent in speaking German by now. Obviously the party inside the tent was good that she find it hard to drag her feet out of the tent.

I attached some videos for Ql’ers who wondering what is Octoberfest about. Cristiana mentioning that there are some tickets left for Saturday, so if anyone wants to go please hurry buy your tickets :D

hi owen , it was actually a good night ... I enjoyed every mins of my 1 hrs having a peek inside the tent.

In my 8 yrs in Doha, we never been to any octoberfest. I think next year (if we still in Doha) we will have a go to the octoberfest. These event tickets always snapped out very quickly.

My girlfriend (her husband is executive chef for Ramada) said the octoberfest tickets for ramada for 23 and 24 (if i am not mistaken), also sold out weeks ago.
