Sir Syed Day

By sadaf19852 •
Hi all,
yesterday AMU community Bazm-e-Alig celebrated Sir Syed Day at aashiyana hotel....i wonder if any QLer joined there...
for those who dont have any idea about this day...note that Sir Syed days holds place in Guinness book of world records as the maximum number of dinners all around the world every year or something like this only....(i don't remember..this was said yesterday and many more facts too..) like great personalities are invited as chief guest and guest of honor...even from arab world...
an AMU alumni from oman was also invited and he specially visited Qatar to attend this celebration...and after all these the best part comes is food...
Aligarians are the founders of AMU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION which is registered By ICC Embassy of India.
Dear Khanan, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan wasnt a controversial figure, what exactly happend at the time muslim dominent areas are running of persian based education having thier degrees recognized as fazil, munshi fazil etc.. and british were implementing english as official language while hindus and christians were studying english and were having good exposure on government job the ratio of en employment in muslim youth was increasing each day. To curb this Sir Syed tried his best to create awareness on learning english to muslim youth but his endeavours were criticsed by some of the scholars who believed that by doing so muslim youth will stray from thier heritage, famous poet Akbar Allahbadi was also one of the peoples opposing english education. In fact he was the man to rescued muslim society from being isolated.
fine we dont kno....
now say whoz the founder member...
to make a association and to manage it is not a small task..if a association is having 15 member thn 15 different thoughts and advices..and then if one is selected discrimination takes place on religion base/community/region or anything else......even though aligs are divided into two groups but they share same thoughts and it might be possible that some members the common in both groups...
But why Non- Aligarians want to associate with Aligarians. They should start their own Alumuni assoc. Already too much bhasad in Aligs having two groups. Although the other group is negligibly small.
Here you can contact any AMU Association executive committee member to enroll.
i was askin to register with AMU community here at qatar..not at website
Khushboo Mirza, member of Chandrayaan-1 team
Khushboo Mirza was a member of the team of engineers of the Check-Out Division of Chandrayaan-I, which carried out the thermal, vacuum and assembling checks on each component of the satellite.
This 23-years-old girl has been a top ranker throughout her career right from 10th to B.Tech from Aligarh Muslim University, pointed out her brother Khushtar Mirza who himself is a B.Tech from Jamia Millia Islamia.
Being a district level player of volley ball Khushboo Mirza got admission in B. Tech at AMU through the sports quota.
TwoCircles.net called her and congratulated her on the successful launch of Chandrayaan-1.
Sharing her experience of the prestigious mission with TCN, she said she wanted to contribute to the scientific progress of India . It was since last one and half years that she had been working on this project.
“It was very exciting to be a part of ISRO's prestigious mission Chandrayaan-1. Like any other Indian I too wanted to contribute in the Indian space science,” said Khushboo.
She pointed out that the work was distributed among the team members of the Check-Out Division of Chandrayaan-I, which carried out the thermal, vacuum and assembling checks on each component of the satellite. And being a member of that team she too checked some parts of the satellite.
She said that it was very thrilling to see the actual launching of Chandrayaan-1. After giving the command for its launch the whole team went on the roof top to actually witness the launch, she added.
So far so good. But did her being a Muslim girl ever pose any obstacle in the progress of her career?
A categorical NO was her reply.
“I am just like any other Muslim girl who follows Islam and its traditions, fasts in the month of Ramzan and celebrate Eid. My religion never came in the way of my profession. I am very proud that I am an Indian Muslim,” said she.
She also spoke on Islam and modernity. She said that Islam is completely compatible with modernity. For instance “I am an engineer working with ISRO and also a practicing Muslim. There is no conflict between the two,” she argued.
She gave an example of Aligarh to highlight the balanced relationship between Islam and modernity. At AMU there are doctors, engineers, professors but they are also Muslim with a flexible and broadminded approach towards religion, she said
She spoke at length on the fact that the city and the university (AMU) which has been her alma mater has emerged as a fine example of communal harmony. People belonging to different religion and sect are studying here. There is no clash or conflict between them.
TCN asked her about her views on the situation of Muslim women in India particularly on then index of education.
She said that it is increasingly improving. Whenever they are spoken about it is only in terms of certain stereotypes. For instance they are not educated or education among them is very less and they are completely confined to the domestic spheres.
People better avoid these stereotypes while describing Muslim women in India precisely because they are defying these categories and coming up more and more on the fore front in different walks of life she argued.
There are many opportunities in space sciences. You just need to come and grab, was the message of the young space scientist to the Muslim youths across the country.
On the Indian space programmes she said: “I hope India continues with this progress in space sciences.” And with India you too, Khushboo Mirza.

All indian should respect HIM, he is the one who inspired us to LEARN ENGLISH to fight for the freedom of INDIA.......
THAT IS THE REASON WE ARE HERE WRITING in QL's......
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, one of the architects of modern India was born on October 17, 1817 in Delhi. His father Syed Mohammad Muttaqi was a Mughal noble descendent who had, in the time of Akbar, migrated to India from Herat.
The 1857 revolt was one of the turning points of Syed Ahmad’s life. Before it, his career had been that of a civil servant and a scholar. Most of the historical works, which were to win him an honorary fellowship of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, were completed before 1857. In 1847, he published the famous archaeological masterpiece, ‘Asarus Sanadeed’ – a book that provided a wealth of information on countless historical monuments in Delhi from the eight hundred year long Muslim era.
In 1855, he published yet another book ‘Ain-e-Akbari’. After the 1857 revolt, Syed Ahmad authored the marvelous book ‘Asbab-e-Baghawat-e-Hind' (The causes of Indian Revolt). The publication of this book in 1859 was, in fact, Syed Ahmad’s induction to public life. He also witnessed the terrible revenge the British wrought on Delhi and its inhabitants after the city was recaptured in September 1857. At personal level, he found an uncle and a cousin dead; his aunt died of thirst before his eyes; he succeeded in rescuing his mother only for her to die because of the privations she had experienced. Muslims were the main target of the Government’s wrath.
In spite of all the suffering, Syed Ahmad was highly impressed by the culture and customs of Western society. He instituted Scientific Society in 1864 to create a scientific temperament among the Muslims and to make the Western knowledge available to Indians in their own language. He got translated many scientific works from English into Urdu.
The Aligarh Institute Gazette, an organ of the Scientific Society was started in March 1866 and succeeded in agitating the minds in the traditional Muslim Society. Anyone with a poor level of commitment would have backed off in the face of strong opposition but Sir Syed responded by bringing out another journal ‘Tehzibul Akhlaq’ which was rightly named in English as ‘Mohammedan Social Reformer’. The Tehzibul Akhlaq succeeded in infusing a new desire amongst Muslims for acquiring modern knowledge. It also gave a new direction to Muslim social and political thought. It advocated the stance that Muslims should avoid getting involved in political issues until they achieved parity with the Hindu community in the field of education
i am not aware of this day...its the first time i came to know about it...if anybody has more info. pl share..

Please note it is not Bazm-e-Alig but it is AMU Alumini Association celebrated Sir Syed Day at aashiyana hotel
and Mr. khanan what are those ideas which you disagree with?
ya thats true...
even not only for muslims..his one quote is still famous today..
i.e. " i regards hindus and muslims as my both eyes"
and AMU is like a boon to indian muslim from him..
Sir Syed Ahmed remained a very conterversial figure in the history of Sub-continental leaders of Independence
Though i like his bright ideas of educating Muslim of India, but i had strong disagreement with some of his ideas and philoshpy.
