Sami al-Hajj back at Al Jazeera

Anybody make it out to the receptions welcoming Sami al-Hajj back last night? I thought it was great the government sponsored an event in the park, inviting the whole country.

I snapped a picture of Sami with Al Jazeera English correspondent Hoda Abdel Hamid (above) at the Doha airport ministerial lounge after he arrived.

Safdar also had some great footage (below) from the celebration at the park.

What did you guys think of the celebrations?

the gulf times missed such a major event. all they know is to cut and paste from other news papers. pathetic....

@najd_san - I know it was on the frontpage of The Peninsula and the Qatar Tribune, didn't see a copy of the Gulf Times yesterday.

@Greeker - You're welcome, glad you liked it.

so, tell me, what was he doing to end up in jail in the first place?

I have only heard about him. Someday, i would like to meet him, shake his hand, look deep into his eyes and say sorry, for what humanity has become today.

Nobody deserves such hardship, all for seeking out the truth. Is anyone safe from this hapening to them?

May he shine with the brightness of a thousand suns and may god grant his voice the power of thunder, made strong by a lifetime of suffering, all in six years...

Thanks, Omar. That was a very nice picture and write up. Thanks to your friend for the video too.

After Qatar's enormous efforts in the reconciliation of the parties of Lebanon, Qatar is highly appreciated for the welcoming that has been arranged for Al-Jazeera's hero Sami Al-Haj.

This brave jounalist has been cowardly abducted by the American terrorist government, in Guantanamo, for 6 years. There were absolutely no charges directed to him.

Glory to Qatar!

Shame on America!

Shame on the UN to act so weak in front of powerful countries!
