Refugees receiving QC relief aid Qatar Charity (QC) has conducted the second phase of its humanitarian relief project in helping the Malian refugees in Niger, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso.
More than 1,900 Malian refugees in Burkina Faso benefited from this phase of the project. QC executive manager for international operations Mohamed Mubarak al-Adassani pointed out that the aid came as a way of alleviating the severe living conditions of the victims of the civil war in Mali forcing thousands of locals into Burkina Faso.
Thousands of Malians flee to neighbouring countries, escalating the suffering of the people of this region. The situation demanded an urgent intervention as the population of the area was already suffering from starvation due to the drought that swept over the Horn of Africa.
Al-Adassani said that the aid could not have been delayed as the refugees faced severe food and water shortages, in addition for the lack of proper shelter and medical services in an arid desert atmosphere.
He indicated that QC had engaged all its field capabilities to help out those people through its three offices in Niger, Mauritania and Burkina Faso. A field team of QC in the area had co-ordinated with the local authorities and related parties before implementing the aid programme.
The aids include food and non food items such as cooking oil, tea, sugar, blankets, detergents and tents.
The project was highly effective in saving the lives of many people in the area and they had expressed their gratitude for QC, Qatar and its people. QC had allocated QR600,000 as first phase for that relief project and launched various urgent projects to benefit the people there. QC also conducts different relief efforts in African countries threatened by famine like Niger. Around 10mn people suffer there from shortage in food, drinking water and medicine.
