Pizza Express--Landmark
I originally set out to go to The One cafe in Landmark last night, but somehow was possessed to change my mind and go to Pizza Express. I think having only had a bowl of corn flakes at 6 am and it being 6.30 pm helped this process along.
The inside looks a bit more upscale, with rose-adorned tables and cushy chairs to wait in while picking up takeaway. The lighting and seating style also somewhat reminded me of a 'fancier' restaurant.
Noise level in the Pizza Express, though, can quickly rise. Particularly with 3 small screaming children who are throwing balloons around. I was the only other diner in the place apart from this family, and I quickly understood why. The acoustics are not the best, needless to say, in this matter.
I chose a simple dish, the bali pizza-- chicken, pineapple, sun-dried tomato, cheese and tomato-based sauce, and a simple drink--Sprite.
With a branch restaurant, even with a standardized recipe, pizza can sometimes depend on the individual chef. While my pizza wasn't terrible, by any means, it seemed that something was missing from the taste. When I sampled just a bit of the sauce, I'm afraid I couldn't sense much tomato or spice presence. Even though it could be I've been eating too much pasta sauce lately, the overall product wasn't, I'm afraid, quite satisfying.
If I were to go to Pizza Express again, I would be inclined to choose a different kind of pizza. I had been eyeballing the Chicago (beef, onion, tomato... what else?...), but spontaneously changed my mind.
To give PE a fair review, I might try another type from the City Centre just to see if it was the particular night, the type, the chef, or whatever.
PE was fairly reasonable, I thought. For a pizza and soda, I paid 44 riyals. The service was good, and everyone was polite. I am sure, though, they were more than ready for the screaming children to go home.
Hmmm... hold the anchovies, I'm afraid.
For another pizza place in Doha, Taxi Cab Pizza is pretty good and reasonably-priced. We had a shindig right after I got here, and ordered up massive meter-sized pizzas (or they seemed that size). For the 12-15 people there, we each chucked in 30 riyals and had a heap of leftovers.
Nah...Napolitana pizza rules!!.....kalamata olives, anchovies, mushrooms, and garlic....yum yum yum!!

You know, now that you say 'garlic', that might have been it.
Oh yes, pineapple on pizza. Mandarin orange is also great! My fav. pizza from a local shop back in my home state is Chicken, almonds, mandarin orange, pineapple. Good stuff, my friend, good stuff.
Smoked salmon... I'll have to try that one out.
Barbecue chicken pizza rules!!!
Pineapple on pizza....nooooooooooo!!! Maybe the taste missing was garlic?? I find that most pizza don't have it unless requested!!
The smoked salmon pizza by far is the best....mmmm pizza :D
