One-of-a-kind Majlis Exhibition significantly for Women
If you have been in Qatar for quite some time, then you must have spotted a Majlis for sure.
A Majlis literally means 'a place for sitting', 'a place for meeting' or even 'a council' for special gatherings amongst common interest groups.
Traditionally, a Majlis is used as a private place where guests are received and served.
Other than socializing, the place also serves as important forums for debates, career discussions, politics, sports etc.
A new concept of the ‘Her Majlis’ has been observed this year.
This is an exhibition that premiered with an official opening on the 9th of September and plans to continue until the 8th of October.
A female majlis or Majlis al-hareem is used for women-only gatherings that take place in Qatari homes or at a majlis next to the home.
Women gather here on a weekly or monthly basis to catch up with friends and family over tea, coffee and snacks.

The Her Majlis or Majlis’haexhibition is the result of over a year of anthropological research, findings and phone surveys done by 1,049 Qatari women.
The goal of this exhibition is to highlight the state of affairs of women empowerment in Qatar.
This was done by exploring the thoughts and opinions voiced by 84% of local women participants.
The exhibition also contains a statistics wall, based on SESRI’s phone survey results:

This month-long exhibition presents a mix of film, photography and statistics on women’s opinions on society and how the majlis has become an agent for social change and commentary.
