The Perfect 10
.
Romania's Nadia Comaneci was the star of the Montreal Olympics in 1976 when she became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded the perfect score of 10.0.
ABC Television set her performance to music, using a theme from a popular American soap opera, and the song was eventually renamed "Nadia's Theme".
Comaneci first achieved her perfect 10 on the uneven parallel bars in 1976 and the judges awarded her the maximum mark seven times during the Games. Comaneci first came to prominence at the 1975 European Championships, at which she won four gold medals.
In the 1976 and 1980 Games she won a total of nine Olympic medals.
Following the 1980 Games, natural physical development began to inhibit her performance and after a victory at the 1981 World Student Games she retired.
Strangely, Comaneci won only one individual World Championship title- on the balance beam in 1978. In 1989, she defected from Romania and settled in North America. She has since married American Olympic gymnastic medallist Bart Conner.

Spicemom, although NADIA is the most important milestone in gymnastic, I do believe that since her there have been several girls as good as her. I would name here Daniela Silivas (She was the only gymnast, male or female, to medal in every single event at the 1988 Summer Olympics), Lavinia Milosovici (the most prolific female all-around gymnasts of the decade. Miloşovici's 10, in the event finals, was only the second awarded in Barcelona, and the last ever awarded at any Olympics)and my all times favorite, ANDREEA RADUCAN. This little girl simply has filled any room with joy and grace, as a gymnast and as a person. I bowed deeply in front of her when I met her on the street and I do keep that memory dearly.. :)

I apologize for naming only three of other wonderful gymnasts, but these three in my opinion were absolutely wonderful!

When I was in high school, some Olympic athletes came to our school and did a demo in the lead-up to the 76 Summer Games. We didn't know any of their names, but there was one girl who was exceptionally amazing and there was great yearbook shot of her on the beam.

Sure enough, she went on to score that perfect 10 and her name became a household word. Nadia.

And hey, Bart Connor ain't too bad either ;-)

Fell in love with her when she did the beam routine..

Showed the world that Easter Block women were not all built like Brick S**t houses..

Memories...............Luckily she's lasted better than Olgo, who went Kaput!
