That's so defensive strong comment. If you're talking about the north borneo side of Malaysia I could just say...

Sultanate of Sulu sold their own country to the British! Khalas! If there is somebody to be blamed, it's the Sultanate family themselves.

1- How safe and secure malaysia is for expatriates (like Qatar & dubai or less/more then these 2)?

*Not as safe as in Qatar or Dubai. The crime cases quite alarming nowadays. Just becareful with your belongings.

2- What are the do's and donts in Malaysia?

* Malaysians are polite and very helping too (most of ppl). So expect to do the same to the locals.

3- Which area is the best for accomodation (decent + sophisticated)?

* Kuala Lumpur is always the best choice. But you didn't mentioned in which state you're going to stay in Malaysia.`

4- Can I live with my gf in hotel or flat?

*Not a problem. Frankly, nobody will inquire you since you're foreigner. Saying that, it doesn't mean that you can held up a rave party in your apartment. Just be quiet, don't make to much noises like....having an orgy party or anything.

5- What are the best places in Malaysia to visit?

*If you're beach lover, the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia will be the right place eg; Terengganu. Or you can go to the borneo side..Sabah. While Malacca, in which located on the west coast is one of the World Heritage city. You can google all about this btw.

6- How expensive malaysia is (food, accomodation, utility bills, clothes)?

* Foods, much cheaper than Doha. You can get some nice foods on the street as well. So lots types of tropical fruits.

7- Is roaming in markets late night is ssafe?

* Please avoid it. Lots of foreigners having trouble either been cheating by scammers or got robed. There also some cases of foreigners been raped. Watch out of pickpocketing in heavy crowed of ppl

8- How much money (cash) i can keep in pocket? I heard it is not allowed to carry more then 1000-RM in airport while entering malaysia.

*You can bring as much as you can put into your wallet or pockets. It's not like you're bringing a hundreds thousands in your pocket anyways.

9- How to learn quickly about the routes coz most of the roads and street names are in malay?

*You can't unless you're taxi driver. Get a map. No problem in Malay language since it's all in roman alphabets...you can read and pronounce it clearly.

these public transport are good choices than taxis. The only problem is the system paths are not covering all areas in the city. Then you have to take another train system to continue to your exact destination. I think there are some places providing some sort of train system map for this.

I'm not a frequent Kuala Lumpur train traveller since I always driving there so i dunno much. Hope it do some helps on this matter.

Taxis don't call themselves cheat . They just charge any amt they like if u get them fr KL town. Actually only happens in town area ( KLCC, Bukit bintang ... etc / ) If you are out of KL town, there's no issue at all. Just pay according to the meter.Malaysia is still a beautiful country.

Well looks like this days you dont need a visa to get into malaysia. Just take a boat across the river just like so many of their neighbours do but I suppose visiting Malaysia does not make for a very nice experience this days

ah, the self-righteous who think they are so much better. that country is just as corrupt as ours so a lot of human trafficking passes through them.

i do like the food, but that country is overrated i think. i actually like malaysians more than i like some nationalities here in general though.

people who label other people as bandits or terrorists have no right to do so because a) they stole the territory and b) it's karma - it's what they get for aiding the insurgency, made up of the very people who are 'attacking' them now, decades ago

Get your fact straight ramu, Filipinos don't need visa to enter Malaysia since both are members of ASEAN. Hookerism? really?...and to you The Surprised aka QDCLover get a life will you?

Typhoon I predicted your nationality before opening your profile, LOL. Not only what TheSurpised mentioned, mostly filipinos get a student visa to gain entry & longer stay into Malaysia and then spread Hookerism all over the country.

Malaysia is not a safe place at all. Just imagine with all their strict and terrifying border controls outsiders managed to get in without a visa and now the malaysians have been using their military and war planes to chase the visitors away and even killing and murdering the ones who surrender. Malaysia is certainly not the happy place it is made up to be.

Malaysia is generally safe. Just don't expose yourself to possible theft ( leaving electronic gadgets - handphone, laptops in the car, carrying a big stack of cash & showing it around ), you should be ok.

In terms of food, it's the best as Malaysia has all sorts of food. In tems of portion , may not be as big as Doha but definitely much cheaper in Malaysia.

Talking about taxis, as long as they go by meter, you should be ok. Don't think u can get taxis using meters in the heart of kl. THey usually charge more.

As for public transportation, busses are not 100% punctual. Best to take the LRT but unfortunately LRT coverage is not as good as the ones in HK.

Driving is not a prob. Use a GPS & u can get anywhere u want. Drivers are less crazy in MY.

Hope that helps.

Overall , MY is generally a good country to live in.

You can get a descent apartment for RM 1500- 2000. (Mostly 3 BHK). If you go with shared accommodation, you could save something.

Monthly expense should be RM 500-700 (for a couple, if you do cooking) and RM 1800-2000(for a couple, if you don't cook)

Gending, Mid Valley (shopping), Little India, China Town, Batu Caves are some of the places I know.

1- How safe and secure malaysia is for expatriates (like Qatar & dubai or less/more then these 2)? some areas are safe & same are not

2- What are the do's and donts in Malaysia? a muslim country but quite open

3- Which area is the best for accomodation (decent + sophisticated)? Foreigner prefer Mont Kiara areas...

4- Can I live with my gf in hotel or flat? no problemo... as long as u r not muslim & nobody report u but its generally okay to stay togehter.

5- What are the best places in Malaysia to visit? Sabah...

6- How expensive malaysia is (food, accomodation, utility bills, clothes)? street food is much cheaper, Rm5-10 can get u a decent meal but hotel & high class restaurant prices are roughtly half of qatar.

7- Is roaming in markets late night is ssafe? depends on location. but its better to go where lotta foreign tourists

8- How much money (cash) i can keep in pocket? I heard it is not allowed to carry more then 1000-RM in airport while entering malaysia. I thin its USD20k the max cash but i suggest use credit cards more & RM500 should be good max.

9- How to learn quickly about the routes coz most of the roads and street names are in malay? if u plan to drive, buy a GPS around RM300 will do. Public transport very good. LRT is good but doesnt go everywhere. Taxi rip u off & Bus.... errr

@anggerik Hahaha I knew someone would come and put the blame on Indonesians. Sometimes instead of getting mad, you just have to look/read the facts and accept the truth.

Watch your wallet in Bukit Bintang...stay away from a taxi driver that will rip you off! you can tell by thier look.

If you were on holiday, go to the east coast area i.e. Cukai Town, they have the best ever stuffed crab in the world. :) (coz I've never been anywhere else) LoL

First of all I just have to make a comment ramukaka you ignorant IDIOT ! I do agree that the crime rate is getting higher there but as anywhere in the world you just have to be a bit careful and watch your back. It's not only the Indian's but the foreign workers who want fast cash

Just go with an open mind and you will enjoy Malaysia if you need any other advice don't hesitate to ask a Malaysian.

1. It is safe but definitely not as safe as Qatar or Dubai, crime rate is high over there. Tip: Be careful of the Indians over there as 90% of the street crimes are committed by them such as street mugging & kidnapping.

2. You can do anything you want as long as you are not harming any one.

3. If you are planning to live in an apartment then I suggest live near an LRT station since I believe you won't be buying a car for 5-6 months. Plus I doubt that anyone would rent their apartment to a foreigner for only 5-6 months. Usually they accept an year contract. If you are thinking about staying in a Hotel then Bukit Bintang would be a nice place to rent a hotel.

4. Sure you can, but keep public affection only inside a club or bar. Its a muslim country and they don't appreciate the touchy touchy.

5. Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Langkawi(since you are with your girlfriend)

6. As compare to Qatar & Dubai all is very cheap

7. Yes it is safe but only in Bukit Bintang area since there is police there like 24/7 other places it will be a big risk.

8. You can keep a big amount with you but problem is the highest note of money in malaysia is 100 so the more you put more bulgy your wallet will be.

9. Google Maps is your friend.
