Make your Bandwidth 20% faster .......
hi all . since Qtel only offers 2Mbps and 512Kbps speeds .
well i found a way to make your speed a bit faster.
ON XP Pro .....
1 - start >> run >> gpedit.msc
2 - expand " Administrative Templates "
3 - expand " Network "
4 - click " QoS Packet Scheduler "
5 - Double click number 4 " Limit reserved bandwidth "
6 - click on " Enable "
7 - set Bandwidth limit (%) to 0
---------------------------------------
it wont show much of a difference . but the point of this . Microsoft
reserves 20% of your bandwidth , maybe to spy on you or something ..
Good Luck ..

Regulator, No offense taken, I always welcome healthy discussions. In this case I want you to understand the following: 1. QOS settings matter only when they are enabled. If they are disabled, setting anything does not help.2. Even with QOS enabled there is no 20% gain. It depends on how you set up.3. QOS at OS level is only for that machine and does not affect bandwidth at Router or Modem. The % is for the total bandwidth capacity of the I/O card of the PC.

dont get me wrong my dear friend qatman , i dont mean to offend u ...
--------------------- but search if you like ......
By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of
the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override
the default.
If you enable this setting, you can use the “Bandwidth limit” box to adjust the amount of bandwidth the system can reserve.
If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the system uses the default value of 20 percent of the connection.
..... iam not trying to chalange u . i dont like negative energy ....
but check for your self .. and u will find . .

Regulator : What's so funny about me?Dandy: You as always are right. The explanation was for Regulator.

sure .... thingg . :)
ur funny .
Regulator As I said earlier it is only applicable if you enable the QOS. This is exactly what your article above also is saying. By default QOS is disabled so it does not matter at all.
In short there is no 20% gain as some may assume reading your post.

Clarification about the use of QoS in end computers that are running Windows XP
As in Windows 2000, programs can take advantage of QoS through the QoS APIs in Windows XP. One hundred percent of the network bandwidth is available to be shared by all programs unless a program specifically requests priority bandwidth. This "reserved" bandwidth is still available to other programs unless the requesting program is sending data. By default, programs can reserve up to an aggregate bandwidth of 20 percent of the underlying link speed on each interface on an end computer. If the program that reserved the bandwidth is not sending sufficient data to use it, the unused part of the reserved bandwidth is available for other data flows on the same host.

at the end it says in other words . it dose not reserve . but i and u know thats BS .... !!!! ...

This sounds silly, "Microsoft saving 20% of bandwidth on the PC" This does not happen, No OS would do this. Please get your facts right.

qatman .. this method does not effect the Overall speed from Qtel .
the speed that qtel setup for you is from there servers , each Port is set to a speed . this has to do with the OS speed it self. well microsoft saves 20% of your bandwidth on your PC . so what ever your speed is like 512KB . to your PC 20% is for the OS ...
-------------------------------------------------
sites that test your speed . such as speedtest.net, determine the speed from the ISP it self . by rushing the port it self with packets .. thats it.
Well Torrent downloads is not an accurate way of determining the bandwidth. Try some sites which offer you to test your bandwidth both in terms of download and upload speed.

well i tried it my PC . usually i Download on Bittorrent on speed , 55kbps . but after this i get 73Kbps and even more . at late night..
fail to reach to end of it
when i expant Network ..it have to options Offline Messages & Network Connections
didnt find " QoS Packet Scheduler " in the expand list :a

"Imagination is more important than knowledge"
Regulator this is only true if Quality of Services is enabled. If not it really does not matter. Since by default QOS is not enabled it makes no difference and goes on to prove that you can never get something out of nothing.
...works fine on my pc...

XP home . dose not support this option . only in PRO .. consider upgrading to PRO .. its much better .
What about normal Windows XP? It wont recognise 'gpedit.msc'
