London - The city of blinding lights
So its been three days since i returned to London and the place i once knew as home some 6 months ago no longer has that same sparkle, alure, wonderfulness that contained me and prevented me from wondering how it amazing it would be to live another life on another plane.
I enjoy the eating and eating, its great to get the variety of life in fine dining, but a couple of nights clubbing and gambling are not what they seem anymore. Clubs full of hen parties and waitresses ploughing you full of liquor to get a 5 chip .. hmmm
In fact i miss Qatar, 37C heat, Shisha nights and strolls through the mall and along the corniche, a growing economy and country full of pride and excitement...
hmmm, ill fill you in as i go along, maybe the bank holiday weekend will bode better..
The question although obvious is, what makes a home feel like home, is it the friends, the food, the entertainment, the ducks that quack excessively you in the park because theyve fined tuned there bills to identifying bread baring tourists... what makes a home to all of you ????????
you know the question! i wonder why you dislike London hmmmmmmmm :) im liking it more and more with your every comment lol
London is a great place, vibrant, full of life and diversity..
After being away, perhaps you are being a bit more critical or your 'priorities" have changed. i am sure that in due time, you will fall back into things..
I had 10 years there and loved it. London has some many free cultural experiences to take advantage of. Take the Big Bus tour and hop-on hop off. Even if you have lived there and been on this 100 times you will still see something new each time.
My favourite is Cleopatras Needle on Embankment. Its the oldest monument in London and has small stories related to it. Two Sphinx standby on guard, however were put in the wrong way around and face towards the needle, not out to protect it as should. Also, if you look at the base of it you can see parts of the concrete is damaged from where a German Zepplin dropped a bomb on the Embankment during WW2.
Go for the free Museams, Art Gallerys and parks, some of the best in the world, Japanese Garden at the top of Kensington High Street. Have a peek inside Westminster Abbey or just go into a typical London pub and strike up a chat with a local.
I miss London a lot and hope to move back one day. You just have to take advantage of what you have while you are there. Same goes for Qatar, get out and enjoy the sun and sand.
I've lived in Central London for 30 years, 6 years in outer London, 6 in North Yorkshire and none of these places felt like home, yet when i go on holiday to Dominican Republic, always when i get off the plane it feels as though I have come home. I had this same feeling when I visited Doha for two weeks at easter, as soon as I got off the plane it felt like home. Maybe something to do with the heat.
what's the question again? lol
chaud
dont be a trouble maker lol answer the question :P
I never really like London.
chaud
yes. I'm also here for a short time though, I'm leaving Qatar in July. I don't know how hard is it going to be, as my other changes were quite hard at the beginning. But now I'm going back to something I know already, so... I don't know.
But yes, I feel like it's home to me now...
I guess thats pretty much what im starting to feel now, its very much a new feeling to me though, i have never spent 6 months away from London before ... does Qatar feel like home to you now then?
I don't know.... I don't feel like calling home to the place that I was born (even though I spent there 21 years of my life, and I'm only 24), because I've made myself at home at the other countries I've lived in the rest of the time. I take the time in each place to meet people, make friends, know the culture, try it.
I guess it all depends on every person, but for me, home is the place I am at the moment. I don't feel to attached to any place in particular to be calling it home while I'm not living there.
