LIVE MUSIC: How far has Qatar progressed?

steveprior
By steveprior

taking into consideration for all music lovers from all ages, nationalities and all other likes, what has Qatar done to make it resourceful and how has it been better/worse when compared to Dubai and Bahrain?

Qatar is most definitely richer than Dubai and Bahrain but why is it that we are lagging behind in this scenario?

"as you said you are a Qatari, music is culture. It identifies your origin and it's not bad"

I didn't say music is bad.. but I don't wish for "Live" music to progress here.. I guess I'm allowed to have my opinion about what goes on in MY OWN country...

"However, the expatriates who came from where music doesn't limit their freedom, it means more than just listening to it."

First of all.. music doesn't limit our freedom.. we don't ban it from anywhere except I don't want to see it progress "Live" wise......and I don't believe disapproving of what goes against my conviction is a limit of freedom... It's my total freedom to express that.. You can listen to your music.. nobodoy says anything about that.. but it doesn't have to be live :)

You make it like live music is a matter of life or death..!!!!

Does it always have to go as you wish?!!!!

I wish we don't have to let go of our islamic beliefs and teachings to fit others' desires....

as you said you are a Qatari, music is culture. It identifies your origin and it's not bad. However, the expats who came from where music doesn't limit their freedom, it means more than just listening to it.

That's why we, who grew up with western music in as much much we have our own national compositions, somehow is trying to find 'the place' where we get connected to that feeling and hearing it playing LIVE boost the spirit.

For me, LIVE music is not a problem... I got friends that plays live with their bands here. We enjoy it!

"Maybe Reem will get her way and kick out all us infidels, so you can listen to your qatari drums and Nancy rip-offs ;) "

I love our traditional drums.. sorry you don't..

but really I hate nancy and the likes of her.. though I love Fayrooz...:)

"It must be so hard to feel your control over your tiny peninsula is slipping from your grasp and you may have no choice but to mix with the outside world :P"

What a really precious peninsula that we have.. I just love it and everything it makes it.. good and bad!

and NO it's not hard really... just being patient and believe me.. there will be a day when all of us Qataris will have a say..

We are still young politically.. less than 40 years old of independence in total so we need time to grow up.. and not to be a copycat.. but to have something that fits us as a unique and different society..

I don't guess all other countries who are more than hundereds of years old got their citizens to paticipate in politics except for the last 100 years.. right?

just go back like 60-80 years.. and see how the politics were in the US and Europe ( like the UK, Germany, Italy, France..etc.)!!

So we are walking the right way.. and we will get there..

God's willing..

The tunes on my CD player are more alive than most of what I hear on the radio stations and advertised to the public.

Maybe Reem will get her way and kick out all us infidels, so you can listen to your qatari drums and Nancy rip-offs ;)

"LIVE MUSIC: How far has Qatar progressed?"

I hope and wish not much..

I really don't wish to see it progress in any way...

Having "Live" music doesn't mean anything to most of us Qataris..

Just wishing for the time when we really have a say to it.. like Kuwaitis and ban it forever..!!

God's willing.. in the near future..

But we still have our music and enjoy it...

No, it's not, stealth. It is an expression of opinion and freedom, and therefore it is totally unwanted in totalitarian countries like the GCC countries.

while Dubai gets around more than 10-20 artistes per month, Doha has around 1-3 artistes performing between1-6 months. i know its sad but its about time qatari music lovers do something about it.ITS ABOUT TIME! hope someone influential is reading this thread and understands the importance of the subject

Its real sad this country is a lot richer than both Dubai & Bahrain but they wont !!!! Attitude problem !!!! Dubai has something called the Desert Rock fest which has seen everyone from Aerosmith to Iron Maiden to Megadeth I doubt if the guys in these bands have even heard of Doha. This one F!@#$n Sad ass place !!!!! a real Shithole !!!!

By steveprior• 15 Sep 2010 10:17
steveprior

No they dont compare, but i think qatar brings artistes which have already performed in uae first and most definitely which are less expensive to perform. based on that criteria only i guess.
