Does anyone know if there's an indoor rock-climbing wall (or outdoor, for that matter) anywhere in Doha?

Thanks!!

Thought u might be interested, they have recently completed an outdoor climbing wall area at the back of ASPIRE near the football fields. About 10m high at most, but awsome actually (quite technical). U can under climb a 8m horseshoe formation and its surrounded by bouldering walls (3/4m). Anchors and grips are in and with some rope and quickdraws she's ready to climb. Although I dont know what ASPIRE would say but no one is using it and its outdoors so....... nothing really stopping anyone. Ive got pic's if anyone interested? ENJOY

did not have time this week end to go to City Center... I will try during the week.

I know Fuwairit, and I'm pretty sure we can make "traverseing" (I didn't know it) but not really climbing. The rocks are 5 meters high. It can be worth trying it.

Will let you know

some place called Al khariyah and Fuwairit Beach. have you ever tried deep water soloing or bouldering? if not, these places might not seem too good, but if you have, you'll know what i'm talking about when you see them. bouldering you need 5 moves - 10 at most.. deep water soloing either height or traverseing..so we don';t need any 15m high cliffs :) 2m-5m will do :) good luck mate!

i'll have a look at city center wall during the week end and keep you posted.

i'm afraid the level is that interesting, but it's worth trying it.

Anyway, can you tell me where were these photos shot? I can also have a look over there.

Cheers

i suppose your name is olivier? :) arriving end of october..27/28th october. i've seen a few photos of some limestone outcrops but limestone has a habit of being very dusty and brittle, so we could pretty much rule it out, though alywas worth a close look. what i found is rocky outcrops on the coast. nice solid rock from what it seems..and worst case scenario, if we do fall we get wet ;)if you do go check out the City Center wall, keep me posted please. Novita told me it looks nothing too serious...i'm just curious to know how techical the climbs really are..would make a fool out of ourselves climbing some kiddy easy climb :)

let me know dude..cheers, K

kf07, when will u arrive in Qatar??

I'm willing to find some nice places to climb as well.

But I can hardly imagine to find a place in the desert to climb. Anyway, it's too hot outside.

I think i'll have a look at this wall in City Center... Better than nothing!

hey guys, seeing there's a few climbing nuts aside of me. i've been scouting out some good bouldering and deep water soloing spots but only through internet cos i'm not actually in qatar yet...from the images i've found, seems there's some nice climeable rock a couple hours' drive out of doha. if any of you would like to tag along and go take a peak once i'm there, i'm sure if we put our heads together we can find a few respectable crags to keep going.. anyways keep me posted. would be nice to meet a few fellow climbers.

cheers, K

I used to climb there regularly, till i broke my shoulder in a bike accident. The wall is sort of cylindrical and so has about 6 climbing options. The first stage one has lots of steps n grips to it, the number is reduced with the next stage.

I cannot recall the details. all I know the guy fell and the management claimed it is his responsibilty. Guess he did not have that safety thing locked and nobody checked it before letting him up

Thank you Novita77!! That's very helpful. Do you happen to know how high the wall is, and if they provide harness rental?

KellysHeroes, do you know how/why the fall happened?

My friend's son went there some 5 or 6 years ago. He fell while climbing due to improper safety and had his ankle severely damaged. The management claims it is the kids and parents responsibilty
