I went to Al-kebra for full course driving lesson 2 yrs ago...had 3 different drivers and none of them ever asked for TIP directly although one said his other student is generous but i just ignored him. He didnt bother to insinuate that issue again...maybe he thought i dont have money.lol Although i was a difficult student they were patient and taught me good. In short, i got my license at first test and i voluntarily gave my last driver QR100 when i picked up my license...out of good will because i know their salary is very low.

I m don with 5 classes only till date and 7 more to go... The guy has changed his approach a bit as I had mentioned in one of my previous post... (Long one... may be you didn go through it.. neither I would have but,,, ni ways)..

Right now... He is back to politeness (May be started reading Qu'ran or Bible..whichever he believes in) ... And jus asks for the Tip... not forcing it.... And focuses more on whether I m learning n enjoying my rides... :)...

And everybody had suggested... firmly.. tht promise him to give it after getting the license..

guys, i personally think to give them extra money is not a bad idea at all. Atleast they are talented enough to give you driving tips & instructions. It's the SCHOOL'S MANAGEMENT to be blamed for their practice of asking extra money. If they are given proper wages with extra good standard facilities why would they do it.

We are spending thousands on our driving lesson or even more if we get fail but we are very hesitant or strict in giving extra few hundreds to those poor guys.

I would happily give him 200-300 as my wife will soon be getting driving licence hence another driver on the roads of Qatar with LICENCE TO KILL lolzzz

miss sagon is right too. Cheap mobile can do the trick but how can a man get away by crying like her too

Guys, i have also heard of it in other driving schools too. Originally, it should be reported to higher authorities but it might not make any difference coz almost all of them asks for it as they have long hours of duty but very little wages. They are helpless.

If you make him caught, the others will get alert and might fail you for no / small reason coz each one of them expects something from his trainee.

But i won't go for QAR.1000/-. Just give him 100-200 riyals. That will be enough but don't ignore his request at all.

They know that you need the driving licence very badly and you cannot afford any extra day or money to be spent on driving lessons that's why they take advantage of it

it’s only a cheap mobile less than Qr300.00, actually he was asking for a booze, which i politely declined and gave him a mobile instead.

My instructor gave me all the tips needed to passed the test, but then due to nervous tension during the test i forgot to put on my seatbelt, and its like

“omg, omg i am so stupid i forgot to put my seatbelt” over and over and I was crying, the policeman beside me was so worried and he told me to stop crying and he will give me my license the same day.

Only women can get away with this drama.

Well if a new person is applying for driving licence so he have to pay the TIP because the angel's for Pocket Parking are very difficult and only the instructor know about that angel's but its a good news that the Pocket praking is already finished now they had done only simple parking for the Driving Test :)

If you know the driving tips, then dont give, but if dont you need the instructors tips to pass, 200 is fine on time till you pass. in my case i gaved my instructor 50 rials 2x a week for two weeks, thats because im a first timer in driving, needs their tip on how to pass easily.

Well if we will not pay our instructor he will not tell us the tips to pass the Driving Test. I my self paid 400 riyal to my instructor ..

Wow from what I have been reading, this tipping business has gotten out of hand.

So many of you pay tips for a service that has already been fully paid for, to the point where the instructors now EXPECT to be paid tips, and refuse good service if you don't. Take back ownership of the system and now refuse to pay a tip no matter how good their service is. They are MEANT to teach you everything thoroughly, it is not an extra appreciated service if they actually help and you pass your test. They are paid by their employers to teach you everything you need to know about driving and passing the test.

The only issue was natural tendency to keep left.....

And obeying all traffic rules...

Don remember we ever bothered about rules so much....

Breaking signal in emergency is only 5o INR... if you have a good story to support.... :)

Lucky we don't need to do like you.

You know how to drive within 4 sessions mean, you are excellent driver in your country and pick up quickly in everything. So this ability came from you not from your instructor teaching. You don't need to pay. You can say I will change driving school or report to his supervisor.

I ll share with you the change I see in my instructor....

Don know had he referred Qu'ran or Bible (Which ever he believes in) recently... as his approach is no more with greedy flavor.....

He jus asked are you happy with the training.... You are driving really Good... And did not mention the TIP or the GIFT thing...

We both where amused when he pointed out another colleague of his who said I don look like a guy who ll give anything.....

But I assured him I SHALL GIVE, BUT AFTER GETTING THE LICENSE... as almost everyone here have suggested....

But he is a man after all..at the end of the class.. he did ask what shall I give.... Again as many had suggested I DIDN'T AGREE TO ANY VALUE...JUS SAID.. WHATEVER I CAN......

And he was ok with it...

I could see today.. few instructors sitting Numb with their trainees and doin nothing no matter whtevr goofups are committed by the learner....

I really feel fortunate.... To have this fellow...

At least is teaching well... And sounds very Humble too... at least now he does...

Almost happens and as what I know of, the Tips are:

1. Priority during registration = 100

2. Priority to start driving lesson = 100

3. Priority to get early test date = 100

4. Ensuring test is passed = 500

5. By pass all the above = 1000

pay no more than QR100...

a fine place for every one (a decade earlier) every one was satisfied to there needs,

Happy faces every were, people used to greet you and reply even if they don't know you...

But now its all changed ...

greed made every thing nice hidden, needy eyes every where…

My eyes water when ever I see or hear these kind of issues especially from the new comers.

So just go with the flow….

Its not a bribe, nor a tip just show your appreciation (if any) to what ever service you get from them.

A tip is never a tip if not given freely. Withholding services (going mum) for not receiving tip is same as bribing him to do his job.

i gave tip to my instructor after i got licience...

instructor Qr20 every other day of my 28 days course and a mobile phone after i got my license. it's al rayyan driving school.

expect nothing, do more, love lots, smile often, cry sometimes but continue living....

and thats only after she passed the test. She never demanded any tips and never show any intentions. My wife was happy with the way she teach her and as a token of thanks and apperciation, I gifter her QR 100 cash and a hala card worth QR 50/-.

when i went for my driving classes, I gave QR. 100 for the instructor

yes, it is NORMAL, I repeat , NORMAL. everybodym whom I know gives it. Not as a rule - but considring his sympathetic condition

most of the drivers work for 1200 + accommodation.

you can delay the Tip, saying you will give the same ony after getting the license. That will be the wise step. But please do give

Yeah but promise him and tell him that IF i will get the licence i will surely gonna give you that amount which you can give....so than he will trust you and when you will get licence... You can fulfill your promise :)

Well when i took licence and my instructor asked me for the TIP so i gave him QR 400/- ... So it depends on you how much you can give him?? But When the licence will be in your hands than only give the TIP to your instructor

I just passed from there 3 weeks ago... all i can is the instructors there are bullsh!t... i was so mad at my Filipino isntructor who was asking me on a daily basis for a new phone, Brandy, Hala cards, money... i was like wtf this is your job to teach!! I have no problem with giving gifts to people that deserve it, but he made me feel like crap asking and asking everyday... even till now he still calls me on my mobile!!!

ash do not ask anybody for your TIP on the person that you want to give, you can give any amount, gift or what so ever do not disclose it to anybody this is your discretion on how you can give a token of appreciation because that person do a lot from you, do it voluntarily do not disclose it to anybody else, if you that person deserve to have a TIP or Token of Appreciataion then do it, if not better say THank you! Thats all!

xpressodoc its not really a system or a hard and fast rule that you MUST give something. People give their instructor tips coz they are just too happy they got their license or coz the instructor was very helpful. Its ok to give when they dont ask, but i hate someone saying give me this much money..i had to change 3 instructors coz none of them could speak proper english, and all 3 of them asked me for money, which is a good thing i didnt pay up first as i'd have ended up paying 3 instructors. Sometimes with these driving schools there's no saying when they will change the instructors for no good reason its not like u can say i want so and so person only. If ashwin gives this guy the money tomorrow and say the instructor changes for the rest of the remaining classes, who is to say the other instructor wont expect money as well?

The last day of the 7 days courses, the instructor shown me one envelop which inside was qr 300 and he told me this is from one trainee, I TOLD MM IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!! YOU ARE LUCKY CAN I GET QR100 :) he laugh and told me good luck for the exam. and I got the licence for free ;)

if he won't settle for the 200, give him a kick in the a** as extra.. :P

that was 4 years ago... and i was to take a full course, and not just 12 days... good thing the next instructor was nice so it's him i gave a generous token after i passed

ashwin dude its actually a very normal thing for the instructor to ask for a "tip" I gave my driving instructor a tip too but here's the thing, my instructor was asking for 1000 bucks and i went WTF? Just tell him that you will give him a tip after you pass and not before, if you pay him anything now he's not really going to care about you passing or failing, if you tell him you'll give him something after you pass he'll continue to give you valuable tips on what to do during the exam. DO NOT PAY him anything until you get your license in hand.

Also like you said he has nothing to do with you getting or if he said he'll help you get your license or anything thats just bull crap dont believe it. Its totally out of their hands. To answer your question about how much you should give him Qr.200 is more than enough. Nothing more, however dont tell him how much you are going to give him just put it in his hands after you get your license and walk away. Then meet me at Costas coffee for my TIP err i mean treat :p
