The Hash

Hi, can anybody tell me anything about the hash - i.e. where and when do they meet, what time, when does the season start and stop and whether many people go (and are there many other women there)?  Do they do do much running or is it more about socialising? thanks!

Bump!

Useful thread.  Anyone else out there thinking of getting involved?  Brit, did you find some runners?

thanks jauntie! it's bad enough getting up at 6am during the week - no chance of getting up and at the corniche for 6am on the weekend, ha. Makes more sense as it's cooler then I suppose - but still!

my 'marathon running' friend has told me he gets e-mails regularly from the Hash Harriers saying when the next run will take place, and where, and he will forward me the next one he gets this week.

However ..... he also said ( when I mentioned you had been told it was a drinking type of club) that they advertise themselves as:

"For Drinkers with a Running Problem"

HA!

and that you are advised to take a 'cool box' with you on the runs, so maybe it's not for you.

I do know that some people (who say they take their running sort of seriously) meet on Friday morning at 6 a.m. on The Corniche.

Hope this helps, but then again Novita gave you their phone number anyway, so ....

Every little helps, as they say :D

i agree jauntie - if you are a keen keep fit fan the last thing you want to do is drink after a run - your body needs replenishing with the right fluids after running - not alcohol - especially in this heat?

Oh and when does the season finish anyone?

Friend of mine, here in Doha, is a 'runner' I'll give him a call right now! and ask him about it for you.

the bit about 'it was just drinking in the desert' - don't know why, but it just did!

The Hash Harriers seem to have been around in just about any ME country I've lived in and I had never thought of it that way I suppose - maybe because the ones I knew who were involved in it were rather dedicated 'runners'.   Obviously there are others more dedicated to the aprez run :D

It is just about having a good run for me really. do they expect you to stay along afterwards or do lots of people just go after their run? and do they run in the desert? and how far away are the locations they go to? Wasn't really wanting the running to take my whole evening/s up.

hi brit1, i dont drink booze, you can subsitute the booze with non-alcoholic drink.

Thanks novita77! I had heard of it but I heard someone mention it was just about drinking in the desert- defeats the object a bit I thought - and not good to drink alcohol after a run! I'll ring up and get the details of it. Thanks!

brit1 ... used to go to that club with my family before, but we have stopped over a year now.

In the past they used to have twice a week meets. One more for family with kiddies and the other for more serious runner. We normally meet up in the arranged location, did some run around then we go to one of the club house for food and drink and chat after the run around. We stop because my husband have to work early in the next day and find it hard to juggle both. But it was a good fun ... and nice way to meet ppl.

I have no idea with their system now ... why dont u call the number and ask?

Have fun !!!
