Is giving lift to a co-surviver a crime ?
Its about a month after i have come here to this wonderful paradise of Celsius ! The temperature here seems to hover around 45 to 48 degrees. By the virtue of being in the business of meeting people, travelling is inevitable and since the driving lisence norms here are very liberal, i don't foresee myself driving a car for atleast the next few months. What i was surprised to know here was that you are not allowed to give a free lift to anybody unknown. There has been times when i had to stand in the blazing hot hot sun waiting for a cab during afternoons and even if a few turn up are occupied. There is a good scantity in the number of cabs plying and not all the areas are well networked with transportation. I am even scared to ask anybody for a lift fearing he might be one of those CIDs witing to send me back home. Is giving a lift in your car to a suffering human being such a crime ? I have only a handful of such strong memories in my entire lifetime. Probably, these might be memorable moments to think about once i am one of those guys here who even if i wanted to help another gentlemen on the roads would refuse to hear his own consious due to reasons unknown.
Please share your views on this situation which we have ....
for a lift would it be considered illegal. Just giving/taking a ride with a friend is different. Imagine all us moms who have carpools back and forth to school each day with neighbors kids. I'd like to see them try to stop that!
Hope i'll find some kind souls like you some day in Qatar, Jasmine .....
And to you guys, guess i'll have to consider wearing a skirt and tops for the first time in my life .... ;-)
"Yesterday night when i went to sleep, i died. I was reborn today morning when i woke up. I live for a day ... today !"
I used to stop every Friday on the Dukhan road before Shahannia and give an ancient Egyptian man a lift into Doha. All was well until he started telling me where he wanted to go and I realised that I was spending an extra 2 hours driving down to the old souq area when I was only intending to go to Landmark! He had no English but used to sing to us all the way, I haven't seen him for a while, hope he's ok..
Welcome to Qatar! and to QL..
You will get used to it...no worries..lol
There are kind people me and Pitstop...but we give lift only to females... am sure there are some kind men as well...
Getting a license is not very difficult...once your RP is stamped it wont take long...
We understand how hard it is to rely on public transport...meantime...why dont you arrnage Pvt taxi...
I usually stop for women if I am not in a hurry and am alone. Dropped of a Filipina, a lady from Kenya and many others. Its fine.
