Garvey's Jam night (musicians wanting bands)
By martinmarion999 •
I read many posts of people wanting to jam or get a band going, myself included. I went to Garvey's over the weekend and saw that there was a Jam night tomorrow at 7:00. I suggest that anybody that wants to get together to ether scout musicians or find the missing link to your own formation to come down and get a massive number of willing music fanatics together and maybe one or 2 bands can come to life. I think most of us write a post and wait for the perfect match and end up with doing nothing. God knows we can use more bands in Doha. Hope to see you there.
Garvey's...I know U.......
Hi Andushka !
You could rent the sounds or rent the Practice Studio from Mr Costa his number 55514194 he is a nice guy and does help young musicians.. just reffer my name if you do go there..
Cheers
Robin
You can't teach experience...
I'm keen to play with a few others, i play mainly rockabilly and proper 50's rock and roll, not perfectly, but i give it a try. Let me know if anyones interested in giving it a go.
As far as i am aware unless you "live" at Garvies they have changed the rules, and no one from outside is allowed in anymore - sad but true....
garvies is on salwa road access is between the new pizza hut on the corner and the Kia garage, area is full of roadworks so difficult to miss, go up there and try first left cross over the roadworks straight on, at the wall then turn right. garvies entrance is on the left. Bar still hasnt opened since new years night. Not sure about any studio but ive seen in the past info on bands getting together, dont know anymore about getting some practice. i was recently at the open day at the rugby club, and was really impressed how many bands were there, and some talented players too but dont have a scuby where they came from. in 7 months im still not in the know, so really need tips and guidance to get going as well....
just wanna ask.. where exactly is garvey's? and is that a music studio.. ? can someone pls tell me wats in there.. thank you in advance..

im new in Qatar, i am musician beside being an architect and i always had a band in my home country...im in a way here shocked ... that there is no places to jam or it s very hard to find musicians to jam with or to form a band!! my flat mate is a drummer ! n im guitarist n i can play bass too, anyone can help !! ME find a keyboardist and vocalist?
Great idea, but just picked up the thread so im a bit late. I have decent gear and for sure looking for an opportunity to get a jam and much more going.
great idea..thank you
Hi Martin,
Nice to hear that, I seriously looking to have at least a group to jam or maybe to form band group.
Just for curiosity, i heard Garveys are only for exclusive members? Sometimes they will not allow you to enter.
I go there mostly on weekends and so far i have seen lots of different cultures there. I don't think there is an issue. Make sure you bring your ID, thats my only advice.
hey martin, =) my friend is playing tonight, and id have to say he's really cool-a different kind of music, something fresh and new that i bet people would love..we wanted to be there for him on tonight's show but i heard (not confirmed yet) that only americans, british and europeans are allowed in, its their door policy, do u have any idea if its true?
"I don't say I'm better than anybody else, but I'll be damned if I ain't just as good.."
Great - am moving out fairly shortly and had asked this question so sounds like theres a positive solution. Sadly will miss this event though.
Maybe if it takes off somebody could post listings as a group or in classifieds?
BTW I play guitar - folk/blues/bluegrass/jazz and was worried that I'd be performing to myself...
Sounds like a great idea! All the best Martin, will see you there with some of the other members of our almost band.
Will forward this onto some other musos I know...
