Farewell party to Mr.Paul…
Before I start my ‘real’ writing work, a quick update on the farewell party to Mr. Paul…
Damn Mr. Paul, Qatar Living will feel the loss of your brand of sense of humour which was in full flow at the Rydges, his favourite hotel. Ever jovial and down to earth. Hope you do keep your word and start a ‘Bahrain Living’ and have as much fun as you had here. You simply simply deserve it.
Gypsy… the first person I met at the hotel. I was about to politely ask her if I could share her seat when she just screamed ‘Greeker’ at me and suddenly I realised that this dame was that dame, hehe. (What they say is right, men do have short memory, even when it comes to good looking girls.) Her love affair with the white dress continued. She had on the same dress she had on the dhow. And finally, it freaked me out when time came for the traditional ‘peck on the cheek’. I died a shy death and I am sure it showed on my face.
Oryx… the walking encyclopedia on Qatar football. Shared one funny story after the other. Graciously and sometimes ungraciously found chairs for everyone at the party. Got ‘blue-toothed’ and was very civil about it. Couldn’t keep the dancing bone in her and we were treated to a jive. Bless her, she dances good, this lady.
Jauntie…55 years young. Don’t know where she gets the load of funny stories from. She has one for every occasion. She’s never been to India and here is to wishing her a safe journey when she leaves Qatar for a break in the coming few weeks. We will all miss you dearly too.
Bridge…although her hair is golden, somehow or the other, she reminds me of Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter. Though I never talked to her, she does seem to have that magnetic charm. Am sure the eyes of half the guys’ in the pub were on her, while the other half was having fun looking at the expressions on the faces of the first half. Sorry I didn’t talk to you. Next time…
Scarlett O’Hara… Was every bit as I thought she would be…and here I was, thinking I was bad at the guessing game. She was there with her husband, and she exuded pure unadulterated confidence. Wow, Mitchell should have known her somehow while creating the O’Hara girl.
Richard (Gere)…for obvious reasons, he changes his name to Richard123 in Qatar Living. Same drop-dead-handsome-hunk-phenomenon (But puhleaze, I aint gay). Pleased to have met you. A good conversationalist and makes people feel at ease. Was the perfect partner for Mr Paul in his funny conversations.
Johnjo… Sometimes, I identify with the most silent of people (mainly because away from the glowing computer screen, I am an introvert). Even in silence, he made his presence felt. He was the guy who made the get together possible, but was truly modest to say that others just took it from the starting point. If I was asked to meet you again…damn, I would be pleased, my man.
SL…though last to come in with his wife and her sister, he made an instant impact. There certainly was this buzz around him. It never fails to amaze me, but can people be more different in real life than they are in QL? I hate to admit it, but he CERTAINLY is better behaved in flesh and blood. (Maybe coz he is terrified that people would mash him to pulp otherwise, lol). But man, please, why don’t you imitate real life in QL as well? People would so much more like you…
And there I go, once again flying off the handle when I write about QL get togethers… I am sorry, but I just CANNOT NOT do it. QL meetings are always fun and I love putting fun things to paper. Until the next time, folks…
Good night and good luck!
cards aren't maxed out! lol Now I'm worried...might wear one of those lovely ankle bracelets like Paris Hilton was supposed to wear...but didn't. Least that way the police will come find me when Cornellian takes me away...Wonder if those are a fashion statement..??
Corne is right, thank god that she was not there last Friday or we would not see you posting here on QL. We will find instead your friends and husband [sorry, but not sure about it] posting on QL looking for the missing 'Scarlett From The Rydgez' ... Only god knows, .. Corne is the Industrial Area Specialist here ... should be careful.
now??? lol
You are wrong They are a bunch of arrogent hated people by common QL's
me to the railroad tracks!!! and here I was thinking I had found a group of "nice" people...oh dear me! What will I do???!!!
Won't say. I shall leave it to people's imaginations ;)
Ramada not good no music. No background music for Mass Drunken Orgy
Corne like Vietnamese did to Nepali
Naah, that's QL's evil plan Scarlett. Beware. We lure our prey into thinking we're such a nice fun crowd. But the second time...we take them to industrial area and do our business...MWAHAHA! *evil laugh*
Had a blast getting to know everyone. Y'all were fun the first time, figure y'all be fine the second time too.
im thinking of 5 july in the Shezerad bar on 1st floor of Ramada, wot do u all think?
This should give EVERYONE a chance to attend with no excuses not to tell the others....Xena, im sorry !!! Jasmine, get your self here!

but am good at covering it up with conversation..a trick I learned in college to overcome my shyness. I'd make myself go to parties I was invited to, and I'd have to go start a conversation with 3 people..next party, 4 people..and so on...years later it still works!! All my friends now say I have never met a stranger because I go up and talk to everyone, whether they want to talk to me or not!
you made the people you talked to feel at ease..that's a gift, trust me. Still laughing at the Garvey's comment. I'm going to have to try Garvey's so perhaps I can get a feel of what it's like to be the "real" Scarlet O'Hara...
You are lucky Richard. You made it the office today after heavy weight boosing during the weekend. congradulations.
Beautifully summed up. I only wish your comments about me were true. I did once feel like Richard Gere though. Once I went to Garveys which had a gathering of the ugliest people in the world. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a boost to their self esteem. Go to Garveys and I guarantee that you will look and feel like one of the world's beautiful people for at least as long as you are there.
Greeker, I am embarrassed to say that I have forgotten your name. This is normal for me and my encroaching senility. Please pm me with your name as I am organizing a little gathering that I want to invite you to.

I do so appreciate it. I wish I HAD been at the Ritz yesterday tho...all I did was practice my driving skills and almost get squished by a very LARGE truck at a roundabout.
I realy got the names mixed out. sorry about that. It was Jaunty with her husband. again apologize for my stupid mistake.
you and my husband get out yesterday without me knowing??? You guys must have be good cause I was with him all day long..lol
SL...be nice, you have an absolutly lovely wife yourself...you wouldn't want someone making a comment about her like that, would you?
'twas my Husband and I
One was partaking of a drop of sustinence, post-Harrods and pre-Savoy, at one's husband's expense.
(waves and nods from car window to all)
Now all the pubs and Hotels that has a bar in it's premises jumping queque to sponcer QL. The Ramada seems to the main sponcer in waiting
He's still here for another week, so I'm sure we'll have at least one more goodbye party, looking forward to it.
Gypsy, so happy that I ran into a fellow-russian! ;)
Greeker, we'll definitely talk more next time!
So I didn't know that the kids are using this forum and adults with kids are surfing through this as a family to xspend their quality time together. How wrong I am?
Topics like these promote alcohol use. Drinking is bad. Please stop talking about it. It is not family friendly.

The proverbial twist in the tale. It was YOU and not SCARLETT whom he bumped into at the Ramada?
The plot thickens!
'Bald and the bootiful', anybody?
who was it you bumped into in The Ramada, sl?
Now you can have a rest. I am going to Ramada with SamayaUK. Greaker - stop being so serious.
Quit being so CHEAP man. how far will you go to degrade yourself? For the sake of sanity and for the sake of the people who know you, quit it. You make me go 'ugh'...
huh? what? take Scarlette's hubby? Naah I'm not a hubby stealer, I am just like to help out Mrs. SL :)
But I'm cool with what i have...
Huge Apologies to Xena
No-one was invited - it was sort of announced informally.
However we could have sent you a pm so you knew about it.
Thought you would have read the posts. Anyway - that will teach me not to assume anything as you are a lovely person and it was thoughtless not to pm you.
humble lesson learnt... sincere apology again.
I will invite next time so SL can't come ha ha ha - but his wife can!
I went Ramada at 3.00pm you know who I found in 1st floor bar. Scarlett with her husband. Her husband is a handsome man. corne azzi, Shivonne try your luck
It was an innocent question, really. Mr. Paul (managing the QL British Club) announced that he was leaving Qatar and Tsardoz was also wanting a get-together, we just decided to meet up at Rydges on the last minute.
Unfortunately, I couldn't go last night due to workload.
Sorry, Xena...I forgot to tell you yesterday...I'm really, really sorry...

Owen, i am not sure yet, but i think i have the beginning in my mind already...
"I met the blue flower today, and it didnt leave me feeling blue..." or something similar, hehe.

( post removed - off topic )
SuperXpat, Gypsy Gal, Lyf and Gypsy, thanks for your kind comments. The day just keeps getting better, i guess, hehe.
Gypsy, i dont do it. Guess that makes me manual, and not automated. lol
What a nice post Greeker. :D I don't know about you but I actually hate that traditional cheek kiss, but I just do it automatically now, because everyone here does it. :P
Bridge and I had a nice time at Admirals.

Greeker, I could just imagine myself being there while reading. Sorry I could not make it to Rydges last night. Was in singlet and shorts and having late dinner at 9pm. I figured Rydges would not allow me in so....
Mr Paul, all the best!
Love your writing.....why did you choose sports journalism..you would excel in other areas as well. Good to know that you guys had a nice time.
Greeker, you're such a good writer, it's always a pleasure to read your posts!

hahahaha...
I think I will love it as I can escape from this bloody rain!
Come and check out the humidity Mak 1. It's awesome. It hugs you to death.
Good write up man!
I have not come to Qatar yet.
But already I have read so much about it thorugh Ql. Good as well as Bad.
In fact, after reading write up of Greeker about the ql 'dos' (In Dhow and Mr.Paul's farewell)I started envying (just kidding) you people for having great time.
I wish I could be part of this league.
Hope to be in Qatar soon.
was awesome like always. Guess that you should open a school to teach people how to write such reports. Honestly .. every time I read your posts, you never stop amazing me. Are you sure that we don't have to pay to read all of this? :)
Sorry, but could not make it .. :( Mr.Paul .. wish you always the best in your life. We were happy to have you here between us, we won't be sad when you leave too. We know that you would be leaving for what would be the best for your life and that is why we would be happy. Still can't get rid of my human weakness, I met you only for one time on the dhow ... but don't know why do I have the tears in my eyes while writing this ... maybe the songs that I'm listening too. [your favorite was Motorhead - Ace Of Spades as I still remember :)]
Wish you all the best in your new life that you are about to start there in Bahrain. Glad that all of you guys had fun tonight :)
Goodnight All,
Best Regards
greeker, i always like to read your writing. You summoned it up very nice.
Mr.Paul ... all the best with your new place. And make sure you pop into QL now and again :-)
That's a fantastic write-up Greeker!
Farewell Mr. Paul...

Please read our Community Guidelines before posting on Qatar Living. It will save us all a lot of pain :)
Greeker, no bs. I say it as it is. Get out of the sports pages, or at least pursue a parallel track even if it's budding and private.
Even at the office, i couldn't stay away from QL.
Good luck!
you always make me feel ten feet tall by being the first to comment on my thread. And as always, thank you for the kind words. I just CANNOT NOT do it!
A nice synopsis. I, for one, could have danced all night! but had to do a Cinderella act and get home before my Karwa turned into a pumpkin.
Was a good 'meet' folks and, hopefully, I will meet you all again and lots of others too!
Come on Paul! If Frank Sinatra could have several farewell concerts, so can YOU! ;o)
PS I particularly liked the age reference - just you WAIT!!!! lol
Fare well Mr Paul. What better send-off could you want? The graceful words of Greeker continue to impress. Poetry in motion.
