Farewell party to Mr.Paul…

Greeker
By Greeker

Before I start my ‘real’ writing work, a quick update on the farewell party to Mr. Paul

Damn Mr. Paul, Qatar Living will feel the loss of your brand of sense of humour which was in full flow at the Rydges, his favourite hotel. Ever jovial and down to earth. Hope you do keep your word and start a ‘Bahrain Living’ and have as much fun as you had here. You simply simply deserve it.

Gypsy… the first person I met at the hotel. I was about to politely ask her if I could share her seat when she just screamed ‘Greeker’ at me and suddenly I realised that this dame was that dame, hehe. (What they say is right, men do have short memory, even when it comes to good looking girls.) Her love affair with the white dress continued. She had on the same dress she had on the dhow. And finally, it freaked me out when time came for the traditional ‘peck on the cheek’. I died a shy death and I am sure it showed on my face.

Oryx… the walking encyclopedia on Qatar football. Shared one funny story after the other. Graciously and sometimes ungraciously found chairs for everyone at the party. Got ‘blue-toothed’ and was very civil about it. Couldn’t keep the dancing bone in her and we were treated to a jive. Bless her, she dances good, this lady.

Jauntie…55 years young. Don’t know where she gets the load of funny stories from. She has one for every occasion. She’s never been to India and here is to wishing her a safe journey when she leaves Qatar for a break in the coming few weeks. We will all miss you dearly too.

Bridge…although her hair is golden, somehow or the other, she reminds me of Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter. Though I never talked to her, she does seem to have that magnetic charm. Am sure the eyes of half the guys’ in the pub were on her, while the other half was having fun looking at the expressions on the faces of the first half. Sorry I didn’t talk to you. Next time…

Scarlett O’Hara… Was every bit as I thought she would be…and here I was, thinking I was bad at the guessing game. She was there with her husband, and she exuded pure unadulterated confidence. Wow, Mitchell should have known her somehow while creating the O’Hara girl.

Richard (Gere)…for obvious reasons, he changes his name to Richard123 in Qatar Living. Same drop-dead-handsome-hunk-phenomenon (But puhleaze, I aint gay). Pleased to have met you. A good conversationalist and makes people feel at ease. Was the perfect partner for Mr Paul in his funny conversations.

Johnjo… Sometimes, I identify with the most silent of people (mainly because away from the glowing computer screen, I am an introvert). Even in silence, he made his presence felt. He was the guy who made the get together possible, but was truly modest to say that others just took it from the starting point. If I was asked to meet you again…damn, I would be pleased, my man.

SL…though last to come in with his wife and her sister, he made an instant impact. There certainly was this buzz around him. It never fails to amaze me, but can people be more different in real life than they are in QL? I hate to admit it, but he CERTAINLY is better behaved in flesh and blood. (Maybe coz he is terrified that people would mash him to pulp otherwise, lol). But man, please, why don’t you imitate real life in QL as well? People would so much more like you…

And there I go, once again flying off the handle when I write about QL get togethers… I am sorry, but I just CANNOT NOT do it. QL meetings are always fun and I love putting fun things to paper. Until the next time, folks…

Good night and good luck!

cards aren't maxed out! lol Now I'm worried...might wear one of those lovely ankle bracelets like Paris Hilton was supposed to wear...but didn't. Least that way the police will come find me when Cornellian takes me away...Wonder if those are a fashion statement..??

Corne is right, thank god that she was not there last Friday or we would not see you posting here on QL. We will find instead your friends and husband [sorry, but not sure about it] posting on QL looking for the missing 'Scarlett From The Rydgez' ... Only god knows, .. Corne is the Industrial Area Specialist here ... should be careful.

but am good at covering it up with conversation..a trick I learned in college to overcome my shyness. I'd make myself go to parties I was invited to, and I'd have to go start a conversation with 3 people..next party, 4 people..and so on...years later it still works!! All my friends now say I have never met a stranger because I go up and talk to everyone, whether they want to talk to me or not!

Beautifully summed up. I only wish your comments about me were true. I did once feel like Richard Gere though. Once I went to Garveys which had a gathering of the ugliest people in the world. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a boost to their self esteem. Go to Garveys and I guarantee that you will look and feel like one of the world's beautiful people for at least as long as you are there.

Greeker, I am embarrassed to say that I have forgotten your name. This is normal for me and my encroaching senility. Please pm me with your name as I am organizing a little gathering that I want to invite you to.

Huge Apologies to Xena

No-one was invited - it was sort of announced informally.

However we could have sent you a pm so you knew about it.

Thought you would have read the posts. Anyway - that will teach me not to assume anything as you are a lovely person and it was thoughtless not to pm you.

humble lesson learnt... sincere apology again.

Sorry, but could not make it .. :( Mr.Paul .. wish you always the best in your life. We were happy to have you here between us, we won't be sad when you leave too. We know that you would be leaving for what would be the best for your life and that is why we would be happy. Still can't get rid of my human weakness, I met you only for one time on the dhow ... but don't know why do I have the tears in my eyes while writing this ... maybe the songs that I'm listening too. Wish you all the best in your new life that you are about to start there in Bahrain. Glad that all of you guys had fun tonight :)
