...I'm glad you are not being bullied.

If someone is brought up being told they are the best and very special they start to believe it.

The workmate I mentioned would be very abraisive with his humour towards others but would square up to fight if he received similar treatment.

I think Mummys special little boy didn't like it.

I personally have no issues handeling humour to large extent ,but i have seen many ppl taking there so called FUN stuff a litle too far .It may be different culture but in that also it should be understanding from both ends

Sadly ppl who go around saying and doing things in name of fun are usually the one who cant handel it when it comes to them ,that has been observation so far ,there are very few who can take back humour in same spirit

That could be when it becomes bullying.

I have handled such cases by saying "Are you laughing with me, or laughing at me?"

But say it with a smile on your face.

Have you had or are you having a bad experience?

Are different cultures involved?

I have worked with and lived with people of differing cultures to me and I did struggle with their humour.

Again, as long as their intention was good I decided to just live with it.

One of work mates used to upsett people daily and they would come to me to complain rather than go to him because they didn't know how to handle him, it become tiring but it was just the way it was.

What is funny in one town may be insulting in another.

It is mostly relative to the people around you and what is understood.

The key point is understanding the intention.

In the environment I live it is a sign of exceptance to be teased and insulted and most of it is very funny.

So in my mind, if you know there is no harm meant by a particular remark and you know it was meant in fun then that is ok.

The difference is though, is the intention to laugh with you, or to laugh at you.

Most people say I am impossible to wind up because I take everything with a smile, or if I can think fast enough, a come back.

Example;

If a friend was to call me a fat b@***rd, I would say with mock anger that I am not fat.

Indicating that I may be a b@***rd.

Are you laughing yet?
