English Language being murdered in Qatar
Why do people in here write Saloon when they refer to beauty Salon?
You invest in a business and have everything sorted out and when it comes to writing the name of your shop you either do a spelling mistake or just create a WHOLE new word that has no meaning?

stealth, Keira Knightley is an English actress best remembered for her part in Pirates of the Caribbean. Frenchiegirl is neither French nor a girl (an American dude is more accurate), and it seems not smart enough to use an picture of a French girl.
who is Keira? your alter ego?
Well, Keira, what do you mean "It needs nothing for everything to change"?
this is ur point of view,
but i dont think english will be THE language after decades,
It needs nothing for everything to change!
Old Arabic is beautiful language, like French. Sadly both are disappearing. English is a language that reflect the world as everyone in the world speaks it. English has lost its geographical roots and so some of its soul. Soon all will speak English and the language will no longer reflect the land and culture of the people who speak it.
If signs only in Arabic, very dangerous for the large majority of drivers who cannot read it.
who cares about english language!1/3 of it comes from French which comes from latin,
we cannot ask everybody to speak it well,
anyway, they even should not be writting in english but in Arabic as we are in an arabic country!
silly!! aftr all its undrstud... thts wat matters..
Veryyy gooood ennngrish..... aber nicht sehr schnell.
Is the shop that sells pencils, paper and other office equipment and proudly has the sign of 'Stationary Store' hahahaha.
I guess they are optimistic that the store will not be moving ;-)
c'mon this is not an english speaking country, arabic is their first lingo..need i say more?
I am sure about it ....
What WK said regarding Google search is true. He showed you the difference even.
Pixel are you saeedkan?
Funny you mention saloon. When I first got here, I thought "Why are there all of these saloons? Alcohol is not allowed in bars!!"
It took me a little while to realize they meant "salon" as in a barber shop.
What is thou?
English language being murdered on this thread as well.
pixel you got an off day at Biryani hut today?
Chillax both of you...
Use relevant examples then.
I don't care much for your appreciation so I will post whatever I want, whenever I want, wherever I want.
Common guys, I have nothing against him on a personal level... He could be the coolest guy in person. But to me, it seems that he is there just to make fun of everyone he does not know, which is not a very admirable characteristic.
I hope i did not offend anyone in this.
thanks.
aprud!!!
Stealth, Ask Whyteknight he seems to be the smartest person on QL. He actually even knows that Google search engine works per location.
Maybe if he read my sentence carefully he would have understood that all i meant was that this word is so much used in Qatar that it is replacing the correct word, which is why i gave the Google example.
Whyteknight, Listen buddy.. I am one of those people that do not admire your humor or attitude very much. So, the less you post on a thread of mine, the more i would appreciate it. I would be fair, by doing the same.
Here are the results for Google search for saloon in google.co.uk

These are the results in google.com.qa

See the difference?
rather than trying to insult me in a lame way, you could have just conducted this search to get rid of some of your ignorance.
CarTurner I never said I am funny. Why are you talking about my avatar?
Google doesn't have to pay me anything, it's the way pagerank system works.
Making personal comments about me just because I caught your stupid remark??
Don't worry about my life.
Is salon an English word in the first place? Or is it taken from some other language and adapted?
whyteknight, your stupidity by far dominates everyone, no matter what their IP is.
Your jokes make me and many others sick to the stomach and on top of it all, you really think you are a funny man. A cat sitting on a chair, WOW .. i am giggling on the floor right now. Man, seriously get a GF or a BF, It might help bring you some joy :)
I hope Google pays you enough for being their imaginary search engine consultant.
Desertshark, Yeah man make up your own words and use them..
We dont have to speak english like the americans or the british do. We can do it our way in a way we are comfortable with. If they find it so difficult to understand they might as well try learning Arabic or the other languages so maybe it would lead to better understanding of both sides
CarTuner because your IP address shows that you are searching from Qatar hence Google gives you more links from Qatar.
I can see that you have not allowed your knowledge of the English language to affect your intelligence or lack of it in any way.
I can't believe people are defending spelling mistakes on Business road boards.. I can;t care less if your English reeks, but at least pay someone that can write! when you want to give your business an English name!
Plus, Saloon is everywhere.. I have not seen one Salon named as "Salon" in all Qatar..
When you type Saloon on Google, right away you get Doha in the links lol
amazing
URDU is an ancient form of English from Ireland.....
tb, U are influenced by egyptians
Even I cannt speal proprely
I have to agree....people say I can't understand your English?!! I speak as clear as a bell....not my English luv....your problem....innit???
With so many nationalities it is only common to see such mistakes. Afterall English is not the first language of many.
Saloon is a old variant of salon - so is acceptable.
Oh man! There are so so many of these, I've learnt to actually ignore'm I don't even laugh at'm anymore.
They do quite well accommodating those of us who speak English, which is very kind of this native Arabic-speaking country. In fact, they're on there way to becoming a bilingual nation which is a lot more than I can say for us back in the UK.
for a moment i thought that we are talking about England or USA :(
BUT IT IS QATAR
Atleast appreciate that they are trying to write in a language that you can understand. What if they just did it in Arabic
i do agree
as long as these remarks are taking as funny, and not derogatory then it is not a problem. Typically those who speak one language only does not realize the difficulty of learning another language, and hence do not appreciate the reasons behind these mistakes.
Puncher is a word in English.
Google it.
It's there for more than three years. Who wants to rent a 'vella'?
Quiet-times lol
My fav road sign is one on the road to rayan, It shows a picture of a road worker and it says " Please do not kill us " ;)
@Cartuner.. why do u care and whats the point that you're trying to make ?
It is all part and parcel of living out of our own countries. I love the little foibles and intricacies of living in the middle east.
Punctuarist.... Got to be one of everyones favourites.
Saloons... Yeah try walking into one of them with your shooter strapped to your leg and asking for a bottle of mash.
Bruce Lee Sanitary Wares.... Know where it is?
Cartoons.... It's a box.
Traffic lights... No, let's not get into that one.
Pearl Roundabout... Every country has one.
Be Care of Your Head... Another favourite.
Backside of you... One for the Panto season. "He's behind you".
I could go on and on and on...
Cartuner, you opened up a beauty salon?
My partner is ugly, she needs a make over
That is typical with small businesses at which they do not hire proper language checkers for their print materials.
That is a small fish actually, compared to what is written in Arabic in many of these signs and prints, as majority of graphic and print workers are not Arabic speakers.
is this their first language?
Hmmm ok MR. Cartooner point noted.
