New kid on the block just landed in Doha after 5 years of Dubai...
Any easy going pubs in town to sugest??
Open air, live band, shorts, flip flops and a good week end crowd?
For those who hove been in Dubai something along Barasti, Irish Village...

Any other sugestions are obviously welcome...!

Yes, Rugby club is strictly members only. You can be signed in as a guest only twice. after that you are on your own.

They are opening up online sign-up, but not ready so far: http://www.doharfc.com/membership

Check the "new licence laws" post! Heartbreaking :(

I hear that a new law is coming into place which will prohibit the sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants before 5pm. Is this true or just another Doha rumour?

Not the place to be if you like to chil.

This sucks. I'm moving out there and am totally going to miss being able to chill at a dive bar with some good music, cheap drinks and no pretenses. Booooo...

Max, you now have to show your Qatari ID card or passport (original, NOT copy) to get into anywhere that sells alcohol. The Ramada is especially strict on this (new) rule, writing down ID numbers on a list, which will be sent to the police if required. I have no problem with showing my ID anywhere, but am uneasy at a list being kept. For what purpose I wonder??

for tonight at least you can go somewhere open with live bands(heard a rumour it could be up to 12!)....bring your id if you want to drink tho :)

Slightly off topic, but I was at Ramada last weekend and all the bars required foreign passport or appropriate residency card to get in. Is this something only at the bars in the Ramada, or is there a crackdown citywide?

I think you have to be a member, or get signed in by a member.

Fellas,

thanks for the feedback and places mentioned!

Irish Harp can be ok for a cold one i guess.

Other places not tried yet.

Just one clarification about the rugby club... spoken with people and read previous threads... apparently if u r not a member you cannot go in. Is this still the case?

and clothing police. Seems Doha is only heading one way..... must be a fight between the conservatives and the modernizers going on. I guess they have to give some ground to the conservatives before they can move on. (What will happen when all the other hotels with bars open!?!??)

Word of warning ladies - a friend of mine was denied entry to Orion Bar in Ramada at the weekend because she was wearing a strappy top!! Hotel managers have been told to turn away ladies wearing skimpy clothing, or their licences will be revoked. Not a good thing............

Went to JW's at the Marriott last night - QR57 for a pint of Killkenny!!!!!

While waiting for it to open (at 6:30) we went out to the poolside. There is a new bar there. Been open 3 months by all accounts, but it is the closest to Barasti I've seen on Qatar. :o)

you sound like me when i showed up! sadly i still dont know a place like this. Rugby club is ok but here is something about it... Maybe it bc im not british or a sports watcher. I want to try admiral club but like the name sounds, I imagine it to be 'ritzy'. BTW, merweb (my opinion) is the opisite of what you are looking for.

I like Paloma but that may be bc I can walk there, it's not open air but they have some live music (dont expect much).

Aye Aye Easy going Pubs.. Like Baldrick2dogs mentioned the only place's you can go in for a pint with flip flops is the Rigby Club and the Garvey's if ever it opens again. Irish Harp is the only Pub in Doha that actually looks a wee bit like a Pub.. The rest are all bars in my opinion..

Flip flops and outdoor, nope, sorry pal, not unless you want to join the rugby club, or Garveys finals opens its doors again.

Cheers and have fun

hmmm... not an easy task then... anything else to recomend with at least some open air (not the souk...) and a good crowd?

i love Irish village in Dubai.. but here you can only find Irish harp in Sheraton.. and nop, shorts and flip flops are not allowed there.. shorts and flip flops are allowed in souk though.. but there again, no alcohol in souk.. so you've got to choose, folk..
