This is part of speech I prepared for toast masters.

I started the speech by showing the Blood Donation ID card & a key chain that Donars receive.

Our body is made up of tiny cells & each cell gets its nutrition & oxygen through blood. By any chance, If cells in our brain do not get oxygen then we can be brain dead in matter of minutes. Sudden loss of large quantity of blood can be dangerous for our life. We may have the best hospital, latest medical equipments and medicines but Doctors will be helpless if there is no blood available with them. This is because science has not been able to develop any replacement of blood.

Just imagine a situation where you or your near-ones require blood & Doctor tells you Sorry there is no blood & there is no donor at this hour & that's it.

There are different types of Blood Groups like O for the Oldest. Earlier every-body was Type O. Some of them started cultivation & their blood developed some imunity towards some deseases & became Type A while others took to Dairy farming & they became Type B and recent new generation is type AB.

They are also positive & negative with Rh factor etc. But the important thing is that only Type O is a universal donor while others can not give or receive other Type. As such need to have a place to keep blood arose & around 60 yrs ago blood banks came into being but still they have to depend on local donors.

Blood is generally not imported from other places because it could bring some deseases also & if you have travelled to some tropical countries during the last six months then you can not donate blood.

Demand for blood in increasing because no. of vehicles are inceasing & so are accidents, surgery involves loss of blood & some new treatment like chemo-therapy requires lot of blood.

By donating blood you can save some lives. You are helping others. You feel psychological comfert & satisfaction. You generally donate less then 10% of

your blood & your bone-marrows start to replace the lost plasma immediately & complete the replacement within hours of donation. Red cells are replaced slowly but within 2 weeks you regain the full quantity. Your donated blood cells were of various ages from 1 to 120 days but they are replaced with fresh active

cells in the new blood and this give you a sense of rejuvenation.

In the end I would say Go for the blood donation. You will be welcomed at blood donation centre in Hamad Hospital. You will get free health check-up & your blood sample will be tested. If your blood donation is accepted that means you are fit.
