Disaster waiting at City center !

Have you ever tried the elavators on the 2nd and 3rd floor directly above the ice-skating rink at the City Center ? It is frieghtening.  The Side guards are hardly 2 - 3 feet tall and a tall person can easily loose balance and fall to his death. It is high time the authorities should have noticed this. You are welcome to discuss any similar issues.

This is a joke right?!  I'm 6'3" and there's no way I could fall over that! You'd have to pretty much choose to jump over it...but if you chose to jump, that would be a different matter!

As tallg said, these are the same as elavators in the UK and around the world and no problem.

Parking at City centre is going to be fun.... for those who will work in the towers comming up.......they will obviously park their cars at City Centre & walk over to their towers. (Of course the towers will have capcity for parking for about 10% to 20% of its users).

Abu....I guess he is talking about the one on the 3rd floor (top floor), as he is

saying "....there is nothing between the escalator and the skating rink, 3 floors below."

So I guess you both are talking about the same thing. As for me although I never found it too dangerous, a fall from topfloor into the skating rink is not too

difficult for a naughty child.

DG ......even if he complains I dont think they will take him seriously.

oh yes it's the escalator!  I'm afraid of heights and just looking at it, i felt something on my feet!  I agree with you. it's really dangerous!

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

...still the title does not reflect what you're talking about here....

It gives a first impression that there is something REALLY BAD that is going to happen.

Well, the reason for my concern is that the escalator had stopped and people were climbing up and down it. While climbing down I realized that if I tripped a little bit, i could loose balance and fall over board. A tall and heavy person (or some one who had one or two beers for that matter) would be vulnerable for such a mis-hap. And let me remind you there is nothing between the escalator and the skating rink, 3 floors below.

... The title just doesn't make sense!

Sorry, I should have used the word escalator - for the moving steps. They dont have glass encasing and the side guards are really short. I am nearly six feet,  and when I looked down from the side i nearly had a heart attack.

Assuming we're talking about escalators and not evalators, the ones in City Center seem no different to the ones we have in the UK. I don't think it's really an issue.

As a tall person myself I can assure that I've never once come close to loosing my balance on one, in the same way I don't loose my balance while standing on any other flat surface (assuming sobriety of course!).

If  you are worried about this, have you reported your concerns to the manager of the City Centre?

RatanDS - I'm assuming you meant escalators, not elevators. The elevators in CC are glass capsule type and enclosed.

Regarding safety in design, you will find that here in M.E. it's all about appearance, looks and show. Safety, practicality and ergonomics take a back seat.

Next time you are in India try the Garuda mall in Bangalore. It's no different, really high escalators going up all the way up. Last time I was there, they had some Russian circus trapeze artists performing, so there was netting installed. I thought it would be better if they left it as a permanent installation. LOL!

Sorry???

I don't notice any danger.

Aren't they enclosed with glass walls?
