BOTTLESHOPS

Hi Guys,

I've posted a couple of times on here and had some really helpful replies, so cheers. Hoping someone can give me a heads up on bottleshops in Doha. I was just told by a friend that you can't actually purchase alcohol and drink at home unless you have some sort of licence. Is this True? Her husband was living in the Asian Games compound so I don't know if this was just the regulations while staying there. If this is true, I'll go insane!! I love my cold one after work and a couple at home before I go out. Shattering stuff. Any help appreciated,... and If the news is good,... I'll buy you a beer when I get there!! Cheers.

Aray - There just one (mother of all) bottleshops here. It's about 1/4th as big as you local Dan Murphy's grog shop with 1/10th the selection of booze at about 3 times your price (for wines)

You won't be limited to just the mini bar. All the major hotels have bars/clubs.

You are not allowed to import any alcohol -- so no duty free booze. They x-ray your luggage as you're exiting baggage claim and booze is one of the things they're looking for. So don't bother.

Thanks for the quick response guys. Novita77, you're a book of knowledge! Much appreciated. PWB78, you're right, I'll only be there for two weeks so it's not worth the effort. Looks like I'll have to raid my minibar. I'm amazed at the whole thing. I thought my friend was pulling my leg when she told me about it. Do any of you know what the deal is with duty free?.... I'm seriously starting to sound like an alcoholic....

Thanks again.

Or find someone staying in a hotel and raid/buy out their minibar. It's not the cheapest way, but at least you'll get closed containers for future consumption.

If you're only going to be here for 2 weeks are you even going to get a Residence Permit? If not, then you'll have to make friends with someone with has a license.

what you need:

1: Residence Permit

2: Letter from employer stating your salary

3: 1000QR refundable Deposit.

When you meet that criteria you can fill out the application form and turn it in at QDC. They will take your form and your deposit, snap a photo of you, and issue you a card on the spot.

Your monthly limit is somehow based off your income, i'm not sure if its 5%, 10% or whatever but it is indeed based off your income.

Yes first you have to get your RP (resident permit), then apply for the booze license with QR 1000 refundable deposit upon leaving the country.
