Boring DOHA

By horsebox

Hi There I am arriving in Doha early September 2009,I worked there in the early eighties and we used to call it boring Doha, try live in a porta cabin in Ras Laffan, that is boring,in the eighties we had to make our own craic and we had a great time as maybey the expat community was so small and everyone knew each other, loads of house parties, has it changed so mush, like Dubai?

This Dohell has got a posh concrete jungle. That way it has advanced a lot. But if you talk about people.........wallah.......it's a shithole.

Are you nuts?......no doubt I am crazy about you!

but some times i get frustrated, no career advancement, not much outdoors, always locked up inside. atleast if i could change job without the sponsor consent, it would have been a good thing.

The world would not make a racehorse of a donkey

Doha is what you make it.

It is an odd place. You can have a good time if you ignore, sand, dust, heat, rudeness, lack of customer service, overrun by bad drivers who do not give a flying f*** about other road users etc etc.

Or you can appreciate you are earning money, your kids are safe, food is cheaper then Oz or England and your kids can gain a good education.

As I say, it is what you make it.

You are arriving at a bad time, it is hot and it is Ramadam. You will see many changes here since the 80's and most of them good.

Bite the bullet and enjoy. Secretly most of us do.

did you find any difference horse box apart of stinking and polluting new factories . Just want to check whether the Doha was a better place some time back.

how much ever building they raise, it is always sandy and polluted, they have all these polluting factories here, life become a big garbage dumb. But most people stick on because they won't get a job back in India, so no choice. Sweet India lovely India.

me and you

Hi and a welcome back to doha for september. I have only been here 2 and half months and have found it to be very boring. To hot to do anything. If it wasnt for my hubby and the few friends I have made since being here I would have certainly left and gone back home.

I wish you well for your return and hope you find it a better place than years ago :)

this place sucks, if not for my boss, I might have moved out. But better than 3rd class places like Muscat, finds consolation in it Uhhhh. May be planning to go back to India, it is much better there. But my brother in law is in US and he is not even inviting us, how rude. May be he knows our true color. Uhhh better than muscat

I don't know about others, but I am having a lot of fun here! And are plenty of water sports or any other sports to do! I feel like in holiday here, even if I am living in Qatar since 5 years!! Nice country, good people!

again just in case users read this thread and don't know that some people are being sarcastic.

Yes Qatar has changed a lot (see the Development and Skyscrapers section on iLoveQatar.net)

And as for boredom, create your own entertainment! There's plenty to do!
