BLOKARTS IN QATAR
Hi all,
Would like to introduce the new sport of blokarting that is now available in Qatar.
Hope some of you have heard of it, some even tried it. It is basically the fastest growing land based sail sport in the world. You sit in a 3 wheel buggy and cruise along powered by a sail.
Its much quiter than Quad biking, less chance of breaking anything (Believe me I know) and great for the family.
Check out www.gulfkarts.com or www.blokart.com for more info.
It is great for groups of friends, schools and company days.
Let me know what you think. All our contact details are on the site.
I know it is a bit late notice but the wind is great this weekend. You can check that at www.windguru.com. So if you don't have much to do this weekend come on down and have a go.
Look forward to hearing from you
Cheers
Ian
i know this is an old post but i need information for blokarting.
anyone have a contact number we can reach for details please?
Hello,
We are with 5 people who really want to try the blokarting. When we went there last saturday between 14 and 15h in there was nobody there. I already sent an email, but nobody replys, I already called the number (5072661) but its a wrong number.
Is there anybody who knows how to get in contact with these guys, so we can still go there on saturday 6 dec.
thanks
LOL.
The scaffolding tubes contained a high % of titanium and the fully rigged yachts weighed only 57kilo.
Apparently John Glenn who made them in his back-yard in Bristol had contacts in the MoD.
The club disintegrated in the early 90's as many members left and the cost of running the Trans-Q became higher even with BA sponsoring teams.
I think the most yachts we ever had in the Trans-Q was 34. That number included the guy who took over making the Glenn Class V's in New Zealand. The weak spot on them was where the main frame bent to accommodate the mast. They regularly required brazing.
I actually left two yachts and 5 sails (BA, Hempel and Jaguar) in Rabban-B villas when we moved to Ghanim Gardens.I don't know what happened to them.
Have fun.
Thanks for the info, my dad actually had one of the old style, made with scaffolding tubes and steering with the feet. This was in the early 90's but the club seemed to have split by that time as I can recell. (Although I was only young so can't remember exact details.)
Some of the old photos bring back some great memories!!
Looks like we could have the best wind of the year today so must rush off to catch it and shame you are not still in Qatar.
Will let you know how it goes but I remember the larger ones going faster wit hthe 7m laser sails on them. We are limited to a 4m sail.
There are pictures from the 80's and 90's of Qatar Sand Yachts. The big brothers of blokarts.
We had two seater wind skates for giving people a free try and Glenn Class 5's for racing.
It is good fun.
