Argentina vs Brazil in Doha on Nov 17!

Hello all, this is our magazine's cover story for this week. Thought of sharing this breaking news here on QL. This is definitely going to be a game to watch out for, especially after Spain backed out of a match with Qatar which was scheduled to happen in September...

Feast for Doha fans

Former world champions Brazil and Argentina are almost sure to feature in an exhibition match in Doha on November 17, writes Kumar Ravi.

SPAIN may have backed out of a proposed exhibition match against Qatar, but football fans in Doha need not be disappointed as a mouth-watering clash between Brazil and Argentina is lined up for November 17.
It is reliably learnt that the two South American rivals will play at the Khalifa International Stadium on the third day of the four-day Aspire4Sport Conference and Expo, being organised by the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence.
According to sources within the organisational set-up, the deal is almost finalised and a formal announcement is expected soon.
“It’s true, Brazil and Argentina will play in Doha on November 17,” said the source.
“Argentina have already signed the agreement, and it’s only a matter of time before Brazil followed suit,” added the source.
The match is organised to promote Qatar’s bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, on the lines of the Brazil vs England friendly last November.
“I can’t confirm this yet,” said Qatar 2022 Bid Committee Communications Director Nasser Al Khater.
“Yes, there’s an initiative from the Bid Committee to host such a match, but there’re many aspects to be finalised before I could confirm it,” he added.
It may be recalled that the Qatar Football Association had made an earnest effort to bring the Spanish national team to Doha. It was looking at September 7 as a possible date for a friendly between the world champions and Qatar, but the former opted to play against Argentina. Subsequently, Qatar was hoping to line up Spain for a match on November 17, but the European champions committed themselves to play against Portugal, to promote their joint bid for the 2018 World Cup.
Spain’s pullout has only strengthened Qatari officials’ resolve and it is almost sure that they would bring the two former world champions, in all probability with all star players.
The Bid Committee is expecting huge international media presence for the match and obviously they are keen on utilising this opportunity to showcase some of Qatar Bid’s salient features, including its cutting edge cooling technology.

exile now we're talking. Me think we expat should protest when the FiFa lot come here and ask them to ensure that we will get more bars in Qatar by the end of the year before they announce the result.

Atleast by then we can enjoy. If they loose they will take down those bars anyway..:)

It's after Ramadan. I guess the inspection committee doesn't want to enter Qatar when it's too hot or when it's Ramadan time.

well, its a football match... whatelse is valuable over here than this game... locals pay for ticket, which they are not gonna pay for basketball, right!

By anonymous• 13 Aug 2010 23:06

I hope they count the seats correctly this time. It's a very difficult task to match the number of seats to the number of tickets issued. Maybe a supercomputer is required.
