DOHA • The Vietnamese Embassy has objected to reports appearing in the media here over four Vietnamese cannibalising a Nepalese national.

An embassy release said: "Concerning the reports of the murder of a Nepalese national by four Vietnamese who then cannibalised their victim in Qatar in late June 2007, a full-fledged investigation was launched into the fictitious incident. And these reports have been confirmed as a hoax and false by concerned authorities of Qatar."

The Vietnamese side has requested that Qatari law enforcement investigate the source of the story as a precursor to pressing libel or slander charges against the culprit.

Some suspects in this case have been arrested by the police, said the statement.
