another accident in Doha

MarcoNandoz-01
By MarcoNandoz-01

An uninsured delivery motorist hit my car today, he came right out into rush hour traffic and hit my vehicle.

The police were called and the guy's manager was begging me not to report the accident to the police, he even offered money and said he knew a place where i can go fix the damage his driver caused without a police notice! i said nope we are going to the police station and that's that!

The driver a 19 yr old Indian refused to come to the police station started kissing my hands begging me not to call the cops ): but i had no other option ): was crying said he was new in the country going on a delivery duty and on top of that The vehicle involved hasn't been insured for over 2 years.

So finally I literary garbed him and pushed him into my car and drove him to the police where's now locked up for a civil crime. police issued me a clearance and the retro will pay for the damage.
I feel sorry for the guy but it's not like I had another option. sorry.

I had the same issue but with a Qatari ...the guy was with no licence nor Insurance ... he resolved it .

Nomad: The policeman on the phone asked me to come with the guy to their station but the delivery guy refused to move and after knowing the vehicle was not insured ( uninsured=unregistered) and he had no Qatari ID frankly I was afraid if I let this guy go now he’s run ‘n I will never find him.

Why the need to 'grab and push' when the cops were already called. Its like taking the matter in your own hands.

britexpat: I agree, but talking about it in a public forum is kinda old school lame tho.

As for the guy I have no idea what became of him.

But without a Qatari RP or driving licenses I don’t see him getting out of there any time soon.

Frez it is not peeping it is a public profile. Peeping means "Look quickly and furtively at something, esp. through a narrow opening". what is so narrow opening in our profile? Everybody can see and look at it. U sounds like 'dumb'!

No personal attacks please.

Marco, did he not have an ID or did he just not have it on him?

Look, this guy messed up, no question, and you did the right thing. For sure.

But if his fault was only to hit your car, and locking him up is not what the law says, then he should not be in jail.If he indeed is here illegally, then sure, he should be deported.

By MarcoNandoz-01• 22 Jun 2013 22:01
MarcoNandoz-01

Feb: I'd have done just the same (:

NM: locked up for being out on the roads with no Qatari ID or driving license.

Brit: I hope not, but probably.

LLR: true

RIP: hmm I'm not sure they have.

Zafirah: Unfortunately.

It is partially his mistake as well.. if he drives a car he should have proper papers.. he is 19 years old.. not a kid..

Brit, and in the meantime somebody sits in jail.....wow.

By britexpat• 22 Jun 2013 18:27
britexpat

It's easier to lock him up then chase the owner or manager who might have wasta..

They'll blame the non insurance on an oversight or the fault of a clerk who missed the renewal date..

Why was he locked up? Do people go to jail for bumping into a car here?

I mean that the car was not registered is surely not his fault!

Uninsured car means...unregistered car....? Just a bit confused.

Brit: fixing my car in an illegal way is a crime in itself and i'd never do that, however I wish there was something I could do to make it easier for the bloke, unfortunately I don't.
