But I had heard that the real reason Palm Tree Island was cleared was it was going to be used a support of some kind for a bridge/causeway cutting across the bay, to alleviate the traffic congestion on the corniche road.
Now that Al Bandaar has gone, which I am really upset to hear about as this is one of my favourite places to take our visitors to, it's seems to add conviction to the rumour.
What a shame if it's true.

I don't think Qatar is really interested in the tourism dollar, they want the corporate ones.
Maybe there going to build McDonalds, Hardees and Burger King there. Oh...what a delight...that's all Doha needs.... more fast food chains...hehehehe!!
it was surprising to find out that it was no more when me n friends decided to hv some sheesha there.. well no idea .. but they had also closed the rest of the stretch which leads to the huge parking spot, which a lot of ppl call it the "Make Out Spots" ehehehe .... well .. yeah does any one know wots happenin .. and the same reason even Palm Tree was wiped clean in a day or so .. i still dont see the "Huge" fountains as i read in the paper it was supposed to have :||

Most of the places are rebuilt in Qatar. In downtown you would see some contruction going on, they are recreating the old style souk in Doha.
After all Qatar is rich in Gas :)
