10 Things to look forward to in 2016 in Qatar

2015 has been quite a year. Let’s see what’s in store for Qatar in the upcoming year of 2016.

# - Mall of Qatar – The much awaited Mall of Qatar is set to complete in the third quarter of 2016. It is said to be one of the largest mall of the nation under construction. With roughly 75% of its building work complete, the Mall of Qatar plans to open by September 2016. KidzMondo – a miniature city where children can 'work' as pilots, doctors or firefighters – will be one of the key family attractions at Mall of Qatar.

# - Doha Festival City – The Doha Festival City, in competition to the Mall of Qatar, may complete by September, 2016 as well. It promises to provide Qatar with an easily accessible iconic leisure destination. Doha Festival City will feature the region’s first Angry Birds theme park, a space-themed role play zone, an e-sports gaming arena, F1 and flight simulators, a snow park and the country’s first 4D cinema.

# - Khalifa International Stadium - Qatar is set to complete the first of its World Cup 2022 venues - Khalifa International Stadium - by the end of 2016. The 40-year-old Khalifa Stadium is being remodelled mainly to meet FIFA regulations. Also, new seating levels have been added to boost the stadium’s capacity to 40,000. The upper and lower levels of the wing will also feature food courts, shops, multi-purpose rooms, VIP lounges and a health center.

# - MotoGP – Some news that shouldn’t go a miss for riders and adventurists. The MotoGP World Championship is the premier class of motorcycle road racing. It is currently divided into three classes: MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. All three classes use four-stroke engines. MotoGP’s provisional 2016 calendar states that it would hit Qatar by the 20^th of March, 2016.

# - Road World Championships – Doha 2016 UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). It is scheduled to take place from the 9^th – 16^th of October, 2016. The event consists of a road race, a team time trial and a time trial for elite men and women, a road race and a time trial for men under-23, junior men and junior women. It will be the 89th Road World Championships and the first time that Qatar or the Middle East will host the championships.

# - METLIB - The Metropolitan Libraries (METLIB) conference is an annual platform organized by the Metlib section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) primarily for libraries of cities with 400,000 or more inhabitants, where members exchange ideas and information on a range of professional topics, including library networks, buildings, automation, training, research, public relations and service to special groups.  This is set to be conducted from the 23^rd – 28^th April, 2016 in Qatar organized by and held at the Qatar National Library.

# - ARC – ARC is the acronym used for Annual Research Conference which will be held and organized by Qatar Foundation. ARC’16, Qatar Foundation Research and Development’s flagship conference, builds on nationwide efforts to advance Qatar's ambitious research agenda. It provides a unique platform to activate multidisciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration needed to tackle the most pressing national challenges in research, as well as bolster Qatar’s research and development sector. This is scheduled to start on the 22^nd and 23^rd of March, 2016.

# - Destination Imagination - The 2016 International Invitational is heading to Qatar! The official date for the 2016 Destination Imagination (DI) Qatar International Invitational is February 25-28, 2016. Each Challenge here will enable student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation. The International Invitational will serve as the National Tournament for Qatar as well as the hosting body for other teams from around the Gulf region. With more than 500 local teams expected from the region and international teams from 10 countries, The Qatar Invitational will be a global cultural event and an international celebration your team will not want to miss!

# - Project Qatar – Conceptualized in 2004, Project Qatar 2016 will be the 13th International Construction Technology & Building Materials Exhibition, that will take place at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre (DECC), from 9^th – 12^th May, 2016. The event attracts key buyers and industry leaders looking for the most up-to-date technology and state-of-the art equipment available on the market. # - DIMDEX Exhibition - The DIMDEX 2016, is an international maritime naval defence and security exhibition that brings the world to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It is programmed to be held from the 29^th – 31^st of March, 2016. Strong support is shown by His Highness the Emir and the Qatar Armed Forces as organizers, to make DIMDEX an event of gravitas, prestige and international prominence.
