Qatar Petroleum Grade 16

Hi Everyone,

I have recently received an offer from QP for a Sr Engineer. The offer states that it is a grade 16. I am just wondering if anyone knows the base salary range for a grade 16 position with QP? Something that gives me an idea on what the top limit of that grade would be which will help me negotiate a little bit.

One other thing I hope I get help on is the average living cost for a family of 5 (2 adult and 3 kids). I am just concerned about the overall cost of utilities, groceries, restaurants, gas, extra curriculum activities for the kids (swimming, soccer).

Also any idea what is the cost of an American or British school for grades 1-7.

I would really appreciate any feedback. I am kinda walking in the dark right now.

Thank you.

Hi Edmore, any chance of sharing your negotiation experience with QE please for grade 16?

@Edmore87 from what I hear QP is one of the best employers in the country offering the very best packages. School fees, housing etc will be paid for so I am sure you will live comfortably with your family. Congratulations!

On that note, if you dont mind my asking, how did you get offers at QP and how long did the process take? My husband and I are based in Doha snd he has been out of a job for 18 months now. He got caught up in the covid19 job losses. He has been trying to apply to QP via the websites but to no avail. Did you ise agencies? If so which ones?

The offer will state what the base salary is. If it doesn't, it's not an offer. I don't think there is a limit as such. I negotiated over 10%.

Also any idea what is the cost of an American or British school for grades 1-7.

From what I could gather, as I have not arrived yet, there are 2 American schools and numerous British ones. The two American ones are 50-60k per year. The British ones vary from 21-70k. All schools I contacted were non-committal. They want to assess my kids, at extra cost, then and only if they have their Qatar ID in hands, will they state if they have spaces. The typical reply I got is waiting lists. I heard from schools and online that they must start school by January latest. After that, only in the new school year in August 2022 is allowed. This is the major hindrance at the moment for us. My spouse refuses to pull kids from school here without guaranteed spaces in Qatar.

QP will send out a PDF guide with additional information after you sign the offer papers. Send me a PM if you want to chat further

You have posted several queries. I will attempt to answer them one by one.

First of all with regards to your salary, you should ask this question of the employer. I am sure they will tell you the basic salary this grade carries along with the other benefits it carries.

Second, with regards to cost of living, you can easily manage your household expenses within QR 3000. This would include your groceries, internet, petrol expenses etc. It does not include your entertainment expenses at restaurants as that depends entirely on you as to the restaurants you choose and the number of times you eat out. There are places where children can play football and also where they could go swimming. I am unaware of their charges.

As for "western schools", there are several of them in the city. Their fees vary from school to school and I hear it is usually difficult to get admission. You may have to apply at several schools simultaneously. Try your luck out when you are here.
