Hi everyone,

I have a quick question about a job offer in Doha. I'm an electrical engineer II, with about 3 years experience.Married with no kids. Currently, I live in New Jersey USA (North East US). I have the following offer and I would like to get your opinion on it:

total package per year is (15,000 basic + 4,000 housing + 1,500 transport = 20,500 per month) x 12 months = 246,000 + 15,000 dec bonus + 5,000 annual ticket = 266,000 in addition to relocation air tickets & health coverage.

Will I be able to save, and live comfortably in Doha, do you think the package is fair, what about quality of life in doha,

thank you in advance.

You need to be making 1 1/2 times your current salary. Check the classifieds for the price of housing. 4000 is very low for American style. Everything in Doha is more expensive ($9 for a box of cereal) except for gasoline. This offer is pretty low and you will find it restrictive as an American.

Negotiate for atleast QAR 30,000 per month excluding annual benefits.

So basically you are offered 73060 USD compared to less than 65000 USD you currently make. So that is about 10000 USD increase for you here per year. Just for this it is not worth moving out to here as also rent may be higher here. You may ask for thirty thousand QAR per month at least, as your offer is not good enough for a US based engineer. However it is good for an electrical engineer with just three years experience. So you may also consider your career growth opportunities too, which I believe may be better in US. The quality of life is not that good in Doha, compared to say UAE.

Not that great for a American. If you are true about your salary back home in the US. I don't think you need to relocate for just USD.833/Month. Again your expenses here would be more if you need better Lifestyle. best of luck buddy....negotiate more atleast 3K per month

i'm currently making around 86000 USD but after 20-30% tax net disposable income is around 65000 USD. This is not counting the 7% tax i pay on every single item I buy from food to gas, basically i pay 7% on everything except cloth!

So net disposable income would even be less than 65K USD
