Salary: IT Senior Engineer, 15+ years experience.

Hello Everyone,
My Australian girlfriend has been offered a very good position in Qatar on a substantial salary and all of the perks such as accommodation. Part of the package is that "I can come too" and the recruiter will find me a job.
While I have no concerns for my partner's financial security in this scenario, I am wondering how much I could realistically earn?
I am Australian, heading towards 40.
Economics/accounting degree.
10 years in my current position as a "senior engineer" in a major multinational software firm on an annual gross salary of $95,000 Australian dollars. (This translates to about $55,000 AUD once tax is taken out.)
My role involves troubleshooting software applications for international clients, and I have about four people who report into me, but not "direct reports" - if that makes sense.
6 years before that in a national firm which specialised in accounting software.
Knowledge of knowledge management systems. Excellent software trouble-shooting skills, but do not have formal training in UNIX, networks, database administration or other "core computer science" disciplines. Everything that I know about IT I've picked up on the job.
I know that these questions come in all of the time, but any general ideas about what I should be looking at in Qatar, assuming that I find something similar? I'd appreciate both the "pessimistic" and the "optimistic" scenario - or either of those!
I've been reading through this forum and I see a vast range of salaries mentioned.
One thing that I find confusing is that I have trouble determining when people are quoting "per month" or "per annum." When I see a figure of 20000 QAR then this is shocking if it is a per month figure but "okay" if it is an annual figure if one assumes that there is "no tax."
We would be looking at starting a family within the first year.
Although we had no plans to get married in Australia - we were going to live de factor - from what I gather on this website this would just be a "sensible" thing to do in Qatar to avoid any potential problems.
Any and all feedback welcome.
I have some small reservations that I will become an unemployed "house husband" trapped in a desert far from home. Although the prospect of being "near" to Europe holds some appeal - and if I don't go, the girlfriend doesn't either, and this appears to be a substantial break for her.
Thanks!
Aussie_Guy
