Salaries and living costs in Doha

My partner and I may be moving to Doha soon. We are awaiting confirmation and final offers for employment. We were wondering what salaries are usual for allied health professionals (senior management) and medical receptionists, and what a relatively recently used car would cost?

i am offered a sal of 8000-basic and 4000-allowances for senior service engineer in qatar. i belong to india and a m planning to move to qatar.

The company says tat i will be in probation period for 6 month when i will get 8000 only and once i am permanent i can shift my family to qatar and start getting the allowance.

Hi all,

I am new comer here. I just have call from qtel 3 days ago and they also sent some question through email to asses my expectation. Qtel seem will assign me as O&M engineer for VAS. In the same time I already got employement offer for permanent position from a mobile operator in Kuwait (I got quite good salary in Kuwait ~ 4000USD plus another allowances) but I do not signed yet. Currently I am waiting final offer for employment from Qtel so I can compare before I make decision. Anybody know standard salary & allowance in Qtel. I expect to get better salary here than Kuwait, accomodation plus education allowance for my daughter 2.5 years old, if possible car allowance also. Thanks.

best rgds,

faisalw

Sadly, prices have gone berserk since Qatar Airways (via QDC) took over and it became a profit making entity.

When it was run as a non profit making organisation, a case of beer was less than QR 50 and people could easily manage on the QR 500 (previously QR400) maximum allowance.

Thanks for the reply GIASI!

That is a great help. How long have you been in qatar for? Do you like the lifestyle?

Booze is available from all the western hotels and members clubs, but not in restaurants, and there are no bars outside of hotels. To buy alcohol to drink at home you must have a liquor licence which you can only get once your residents permit has been issued. You have to pay a hefty (refundable) deposit for it, and there are harsh punishments if you break the rules regarding private alcohol consumption. There is only outlet for buying 'takeaway' alcohol, and you can only spend 10% of your monthly salary on alcohol to takeaway, although I would suggest a visit to AA if you do this every month. A pint in hotel bars range from around 20 - 25QR, although some have happy hours. Members clubs are a bit cheaper. Happy drinking!

Sorry I should have added something. Somewhere (either in this or another forum) someone mentioned the problems with buying alcohol. Could one of you elaborate for me please. How about prices for a dozen beer, a bottle of wine or a bottle of whiskey? I had thought that there was no legal alcohol sales but this seems not to be the case (I've even seen some hotel sites that show bars).

I'd actually just like some info about household costs (if anyone has a grocery store website which shows prices that would be good). How much for a liter of milk, kg of reasonable beef, loaf of bread, kg of apples (or other fruit), litre of midrange wine, litre of petrol, etc?

Can I recommend a second hand 4x4 and don't pay more than 10,000 riyals for it. Avoid the Isuzu or hondas and stick with something that is more realiable like Toyota or Nissan. These car's value don't depericate like other cars and spare part and maintenance is very cheap.

I would worry about accomdation if the workplace isn't providing accomdation. Real estate prices in Qatar are a joke.

Glad to help.

Sanda,

Im not in the medical industry but im replying because it doesnt seem anyone else is going to :)

As a general opinion, for a senior management position (eg a divisional manager or similar), i would think not less than US$10000 p.m. plus benefits.

Medical receptionists i wouldnt imagine earning over US$1000 pm all inclusive.

Please dont take what i say as gospel because im from the Engineering industry. Just some thoughts on my part and maybe a trigger for someone else to post something.

Second hand car? well that depends on what your looking for. eg. Expect to pay around US$10-15K for a decent family saloon.

Hope that helps

Respect

Thanks KaZaNoVa for your reply. We are not sure about names just at the moment. We are still deciding when to have a baby at this stage.

Just one other question: Do you know what the salary for a health professional (senior management position) is in qatar? My partner is awaiting confirmation on a job offer in the health industry but we are not sure what a good salary would be in qatar. Do you have any ideas on this?

Kind Regards, sandawhite

I'm from australia and my partner & I are considering having a baby in qatar. Is this recommended? What is the standard of hospitals and obstetricians like in qatar?
