PRIME MINISTER and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani said yesterday that it was likely rents in Qatar would keep increasing for the next two years and they would come down only from the third year onwards.

Addressing Qatari businessmen at a consultative meeting, hosted by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), he said steps should be taken to rein in inflation which is on the rise in the country.

But just because they build the commercial office blocks, doesn't necessarily mean they are going to be filled to capacity.

They've thrown up a lot of commercial and residential blocks in Manchester where I am and there's a lot of vacant floor space.

The demand for "High End" property is out weighed by supply which is pushing rents for decent property up.

Apart from the Zig Zag there is the Pearl and thats it till Loisil gets further along but that is gonna be about 2 years away.

Till then rents for decent apartments will remain high, hopefully.

There are a few Residential projects comming up (other than the pearl) but I feel not enough to even house the staff in the upcomming "Tower" offices around the Corniche area.

Suppose on an average of 20floors in each tower & each floor has atleast 5 offices min. & each office has at least 20staff min. It equals to 20x5x20= 2000 staff per Tower..!!! And that is a Conservative estimate. Mutiply this by the no. of such towers comming up & you will get the Answer. (And do these towers have Parking space for even a 10th of their staff ie 200cars?).

If there are Commercial towers they ought to be offset by Residential Towers - to at least balance the rent as it is now. But I see no residential towers in construction at least in Doha.

Otherwise HOW?

This is not like the share-market where there are changes every fortnight. Or is it?

I see

I know all about the Lagoon and the pearl.

I was hoping that we can purchase a villa inside Doha, but it seems it still panned for non-Qataris.

When r u receiving your flat?

Congrats

Lol Iwael … sorry, what I meant is that I believe rents are artificially kept high and I'm not too sure they'll be able to keep this situation up for the next two years … anyway why should I care? I won't be here to see it!
