spartan2013
By spartan2013

Hi All,
I was here before as a "Spartan2012", unfortunately i forgot my password and i am now as "Spartan2013". I asked before for some opinions about my offer, which at the end i rejected.
Luckily i got another one, and wanted to ask you All for some thoughts and comments, PLEASE! i will really appreciate your help.
I am a Landscape Architect working in the UK. I have been working for a big international company in central London for 5 years. I have a Master degree in Landscape Architecture but I am looking to be relocated to the Middle East.
I have received an offer in Qatar. Is anyone can help me to judge if it’s a good offer or not. Also, I am a single person (with no commitments to anyone and to anywhere), I am Polish but I am going through British naturalization at the moment.
The offer is:
a. Monthly Base Salary: QR 9,750

b. Monthly Living Allowance: QR 5,250
(all-inclusive)
c. Total Monthly Salary: QR 15,000

Please note that Living Allowance is all-inclusive and considered the Company’s contribution toward furnished accommodation, cost of utilities, local transportation, annual leave air tickets, costs associated with employee’s dependents, and any other costs associated with residing in Qatar.

PLEASE HELP!!

Karolina

spartan2013,the package is too low.I would suggest you bargain with them.Wait until you get your British citizenship. A good package in my opinion would be QR15k basic+Qr10k for the rest+Private Medical Insurance+your annual return ticket. Depending where you will work, you can live in Ezdan Village, fully furnished 1 bed flat +TV, free internet may be around QR4k. Rent a car Qr2500 a month or less if you rent for a longer duration. Petrol is very cheap here. Good luck.

I have been living in the UK 6 years in my own flat. I wouldn’t be happy to lower my standards, but i don’t expect too much either. Just a normal 1 bedroom flat in a good condition with western European standards.

I don’t think I would be able to live somewhere which it doesn’t reflect western European lifestyle. I thiiiink we got confused here; i am not interested in a single accommodation. I am interested in 1 bedroom flat.

I have rejected the offer. But I sent to them my expectation and we will see what will happen. What do you mean by “accommodation for single”? the accommodation I was looking at and I am interested are between 5000QR to 6000QR, 1 bedroom flat. Can you send me a website I can look at the prices please?

Accomodation for single QR 2,500 to 3 or 4 k depends on your convenience

Rent a car QR 2200 - QR 2500

Mobile depends upon usage postpaid prepaid

thank you for all your comments. From my personal research i kjnow that accomodation costs are between 6000-7000QR a month, rent a car is 3000-3500QR, plus phone bills 1000QR. Is that right?

Well, there is a very punctual sponsorship system in here, so my opinion says:

accept anything >= 30 000 QR ...full stop !

If I were you, I would request 15k for basic salary plus 6k for housing, 2k for transportation, annual return ticket and health insurance. (Health insurance is important, normally people visit private hospitals and it will cost around 300-400 for consultant without insurance.)

How about checking costs of everything you need in Qatar through the internet or this site and just sum up. You might get your answer.

Anyhow, if you once contract with wrong company to work for, it is very difficult to change. Because of sponsor system in this country. Be careful!

But i am affraid that i have to pay for everything, my flat, bills, car and i will be not sufficent. Are my concerns right?

Just watch you don't jeoardise the naturalisation process by leaving the UK to come to Qatar. Might cost you a lot more in the long term.

HHmmm, have i been receiving lower offers because i am Polish? i am going through a british naturalization process now, when i will become british are they going to offer me more? Lol...

You are earning more

why the need to switch your job for a lower package ?

For your qualifications and experience that would seem very low. The basic salary is just under £20k per annum, which must be less than you are currently on in Central London. You need to be thinking of getting your UK salary over here as he basic as a minimum, so that your benefit is the tax etc you won't be paying. You need to remember also that its normally a 45 hour week, so roughly an extra 10 hours on your UK working week.

As for allowances this can sometimes be a percentage of basic, but again too low. Check previous posts.

I dont get it! this is a second offer which is crap. How much i should expect for 48 hours of work?

It is a good offer. What's the problem?

There are many people here who have BA degrees in business management, and work or get far less offers all because of their nationality.

Take it. Best wishes
