Job as a university Professor

my wife is American, and she is a professor of literature  at the University Of Riverside California. She is expected to recieve her PHD by mid of 2009. We will be moving to Qatar in June of 08, and we are wondering what and where can she work , and what kind of salary should she expect?
If anyone know about any job openings in English/Spanish/ Italian literature, that would be great.
Thank you

I worked in QU until last year.  I can't say I recommend it.  If you have a good Head of Dept things can be okay, if not, then your life will be miserable.  Importantly, the level of teaching and research is most definitely NOT of a level with the West.  Students, especially if you are teaching foreign literature, have many basic language problems.

Many will take exams of texts without ever having read them, relying instead on the 'movie of the film'.

When it comes time to give out results you must meet each student individually and tell them their grade.  The student is then allowed to beg, cry, plead for more marks.  This is an accepted part of the culture of the University. Health care is subsidised, not free, and only allows you to use the state system.  I do recommend the Universities at the Foundation.  I had a fair amount to do with them in my time in Doha and would certainly have taken a job there had I been atying in the area and been offered.

Mysical, this may not be the same as all departments.  Actually, this is only second-hand news.  It revolved around a friend who got sacked there after working there for one month.  He opened his mouth to wide about their curriculum vs. what was really going on in the classroom.  As you can guess, this kind of issue can lead to exaggeration.  What is a troublesome administration for some people is OK for others.

At my workplace, I'm OK with the administration but others are not happy.  They view the admin as not straightforward/honest with us non-manager people.  I think it is OK though.  I'm easy to please.  When I read about all the injustices that happen to workers here in Qatar, I'm happy to be where I am.

QU?  The school has a lot of politics and jockeying to protect positions.  If you are OK with politics in your job, then try QU.  If not and you just want to be left to teach asyou wish, then try elsewhere (like in Education City).
