Job offer from Qatar Airways

Hi,

I've just got an offer from Qatar Airways as a senior pricing analyst.

The package is 5,000 basic, housing allowance of 2,000 and stransport allowance of 3,000. How does this sound or compare to salaries of similar position.

Kindl advise if I will be able to survive on such a salary in terms of housing, food expenses and transport.

Can you please elaborate more on the aptitude test? Did you also have a personality test?

Haha, thanks for the correction, my brain cease to function after midnight.

Yes I'm still apprehensive about going over to Qatar as the package is not comparable to what I'm getting here in Singapore. The only attraction is a whole new experience in another country. :)

its a trap....nothing more than that.....and I still have the nasty feeling of being trapped as they put it in there own words "since you're already here you might as well live with it"!!!!!

I'm sorry that I have to put it this way.....but Qatar Airways is the worst employer i've ever come in contact with. They have no idea what they're doing.  Several months a go they had hired a management consultant company from the US to re-structure the revenue management dept., hire qualified people for their respective positions.  Well guess what, the management company sucked all the money and left, nothing has changed,  the positions and salaries are still being decided on the basis of passports and skin colour instead of experience and expertise, the HR and management is still slow and disorganized.

The payscales are terrible.  I agree with the person that has mentioned above that this kind of salary is earned by a office admin employee in a oil and gas industry.   Its not that Qatar airways does not have money....it does, and lots of it too, its just highly mismanaged.  They think they can get away with hiring qualified and experienced people without making it worth their while....well, it aint happening.   If you are the type of person who cares about career advancement,  recognition, increase in your standard of living, honesty and sincerity....u're not going to get any of that in this company. I personally know people who have NOT had salary increases in the last 5 years.  Had to fight and exchange emails with my superiors pleading for a decent accomodation....something which was clearly agreed upon in the contract.  But then who cares about the contract, they can always come up with the "new company policy".

The turnover rate is amazing, and the HR dept. is so used to people joining and running away (literally) that they dont even blink in surprise!

Oh and if you dont run away.....but in fact inform them of your intention to leave the company, they do resort to mean tactics to either delay or alter your plans.

Just a bit of my experience......

Hi,

For basic, it's ok but you could always negotiate as long as you have not confirmed to them your acceptance. Other allowances are given based on your grade and non-negotiable.

I have doubt if they are really giving 3000QR for transport allowance, as similar positions in the company are receiving much less.

I guess you are right.. Not an attractive offer, but if you count in yourself, you have get minimum 20,000 QAR all inclusive which is almost 6000 usd. I do not think to work in QR below this salary. Because as I said  before we work hard and either pricing analyst or revenue analyst, work experience is alot thing which we have eventually.

Go for at least 4000 usd basic salary plus accomodation and othe allowances. Otherwise Singapore is way better from Qatar in anyways, no need to discuss.

Cheers!

maybe u meant a li'l bit apprehensive rather than comprehensive my dear terence. Anyway, if you're gonna change course, Singapore will be better, with better facilities there, transport, food and the sheer proximity to your area of birth. Nowadays, Doha is a bit pricy and the accomodation fees can range from high to exorbitantly unbelievable!

Just to follow up terencechan, your basic salary is simply not on par for mid to upper level position though some have mentionedit otherwise.  I strongly believe that you have room for further negotiation.  Man, how much is 5k QR worthin Singapore? not much at all and I m sure you will agree with me.  Just a thought pal.

Hi paradox,

Actually they flew in here for the interview, they were conducting interviews over 3 days. They were hiring for positions like managerial posts to air crew. I had a face to face interview. I was made to do some really simple maths test which i think was probably the equivalent of a 12 grader. After the test it was just an interview which lasted about 20mins. 1 week later I heard from them via phone on the job offer.

terencechan, congratlulations to u though u are still undecided if u are going to accept the offer.

After u got the phone interview, how many days later did u go to doha for face-to-face interview? and what went on during the interview? and I assume that the employer paid for the trip expenses, correct?

I would appreciate if u could help to shed some lights. Thanks

Aviator_tr, from the looks of it, the package offer does sound unattractive. I'm currently drawing a slightly higher salary than what's offered by Qatar Airways. Things are expensive back here in Singapore but I don't think it is compared to the cost of living in Qatar.  After checking in the forums here and there, it doesn't seem such an attractive proposal to me anymore, the only positive thing i can see is the chance to work abroad.

I don't think i'm offered by 3rd party as Qatar Airways personnel interviewed me. In any case, I now have a feeling of being short changed.  Lucky thing is I've yet to sign on the dotted line.

However anyone knows what are the chances of negotiating for a higher salary?

It sounds that you are going to be hired in third party pay rolls, not in Qatar Airways payrolls, if its in clients payroll you have to work for Qatar Airways on behalf of their appointed facliltes agent, you will be enjoying the benifits and salary from third party.

Can't believe, a 5 star airline like QA offers a salary like this  to an analyst position, the salary mentioned above is close to a salary being offered to an admin assistant (clerical) in oil & gas companies here like QP.

Pricing Analyst is one of the ley position in the airline business, requires strong analytical skills, market searchs, promoting market boosting iniatives and so on. That's why like Teren said, you are stuck in the office, sometime for late hours, your phones (if you have) never stops ringing. How do I know, coz I'm revenue analyst in my country's flag carrier. I'm coming to Doha for a job interview for the position Flight Analyst (a.k.a revenue analyst, work sticky together with pricing analysts) next week. The salary offered to Teren made me abit dissapointed. Because 10000 QAR is about 2800 usd and I earn here 2000 usd all inclusive (7200 QAR), in IStanbul 1+1 rents are starting from 500 usd (1500 QAR) to infinite costs. Inflation rate is at least stable for some years( 10%) and big mac menu is 6,5 usd (24 QAR) I do not know how much is it in Doha.. My point is, considering that if all things in good way, I'll be offered pretty same as Teren was. I have 3 years experience in the business and mostly equipped with international aviation certificates with 2 foreign languages (english and french). For the time being I have unlimited ZED(zonal employee discount, based on interline agreements) 1 ID100 free international pass ticket and 3 domestic tickets and after 5th year this will almost double in quantity.

Key question: WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY COST to be in DOHA ? Please help us people!

THANKS

Hikmet

It's a pricing analyst position, meaning there should be minimal moving around. Should be stuck in the ofice. I'm single at the moment but have plans to get married soon, I did state this during interview, not sure if it gotten into their ears.

Hi working_mum, what's ID90?

I'm still a little comprehensive on the offer because this package is on par with my current salary.

What sort of job is it?  I ask as I wonder why the transportation allowance is so high?  To me, the housing allowance seems a bit low unless they are providing some sort of subsidized accomodation.

Welcome aboard! Please clarify this with HR why your tranportation allowance is higher than HRA. Offer is not bad anyway you will get unlimited ID90 and annual ticket confirmed. Good Luck .

Teren...How come you transport allowance is higher than your housing allowance, will you be on bachelor status, nowadays it is difficult to find a decent room worth QR 2000. Yous should clarify this from QA.

It's good package, just be careful from Qatar Airways, the company is quite strict.

Basic is good enough!

HRA needs to be negotiated. For bachelor QR.3000/- will be a fair deal.

For family QR.4500-5500/- at least will be OK.

 All the best!
