Answer to Aussie_Guy's question
I tried to use the answer option but kept getting an error, so figured I would post here in hopes he sees it.
Let me preface my answer with the fact that I am not in the IT field and have no idea what kind of demand there is or what salary range you can expect.
That being said, I would be highly suspicious of a recruiter who is going to "find you a job". Please understand that Qatar is an Arab country with very strong Muslim beliefs and would not be accepting of you living with a woman who you are not married to. That isn't to say it doesn't happen, and they aren't going to kick in your door to check for a marriage certificate - but unless he can provide a written job offer I would be careful with coming over with your girlfriend. While you can arrive on a visit visa, if you are unable to find a position before it expires you would be forced to leave as your girlfriend can not sponsor you.
Keep in mind that you can not just accept a "filler" job while you look for something better. If you quit a job and your employer decides not to provide you with a NOC you would be forced to leave the country.
And to answer your question almost all salaries here are paid monthly so the quotes you have seen are not per annum but a monthly salary in Qatari Riyals (1 AUD = 3.25 QAR).
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the replies. I certainly have seen them and appreciate the prompt response and information greatly.
Furthermore:
I came to Qatar with a similar promise: the recruiter told me it would be easy to find my husband a job. Almost 5 months later and nothing. Truth is, it is not that easy to find a job here.
If you guys get married your wife can arrange for a 6 months relative visa. If her company is even willing to pull their weight, she could sponsor you (it has happened a few times but the company needs to fight that battle with the government on her behalf).
I think it's crazy for you to come here without being married, with no job on the expectation of finding a sponsor. At least get married before you come.
