Is 27K including housing and transportation a good salary for a single to live and save?

Thx,

I am also American and I like it here. I have some really good friends and I make sure I get out and do things. Cincinnati it ain't but I think Cincinati sucks. In fact, I think the whole state of Ohio sucks and so does my friend Vegas who is originally from there.

If your salary is QR27,000 per month you will not have to pay US tax. You will only pay tax on earnings above $85,000. Your salary will be about $70,000 so there is plenty of headroom before you have to pay tax. Even, then you will only have to pay tax onthe amount above $85,000. If you use your IRA allowance it means you only pay tax on amounts above $90,000.

If I were you I would give it a try. I haven't noticed any prostitutes here. Maybe I don't go to the same places as kqureshi but I like it here. This place is as good or as bad as you make it.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

Cardozo I am also from America (Cincinnati Ohio) working for American company in Doha Qatar. Let me tell you this if I haven’t committed to my company I would have left Qatar with-in one week.

Compare to USA, standard of living in Qatar is 5 (On scale of 1 to 10).

Weather is nasty (Too Hot compare to Cincinnati)

Driving is dangerous.

No entertainment except for few clubs and they are outrageous cover charge and drinks are expensive. Most of the girls you meet there are prostitutes.

ETC, ETC

I pay 10k per month for my 2 bed apartment!

fully furnished (well sort of), including water, elec allowance and (slow) internet!

You can get a one bed for about 7/7.5k per month.

If you go out and drink a lot, that will be your greatest expense!

bt, you obviously quoting a monthly package right?

Hi Novita77,

I read your posting with interest. QR1.5K for water, electric and internet? That's really expensive. Is this the average or the maximum?

cheers

There are never problems in spending ;) but you know with the rents going crazy and the prices of everything getting higher, it is normal that I ask questions before going to a country that I don't know... Let me give you an example: without asking you, I would've never expected a 2 bedrooms rent to be around 3000 US$... This does not exist in the normal places in North America... So the more info I get from you guys will help me understanding the life costs there.

Again.. Thx all for your time!

27 K

QR 10.000 for housing

QR 5.000 to transfer home

QR 2.000 for car hire

QR 1.500 for water / electric / internet

Total 18.500 QR, the balance will be for food drinking and saving? Depend how bad is your drinking habit. If you go out clubbing every weekend that will put a hole in your pocket.

Alternatively you can apply a booze license and do your drinking at home ...

Aha!

anyway single = low housing allowance + you cannot see your fiancee

Married = better housing allowance + your wife home

I believe that the system is encouraging me to get married :)

I know I know... Marriage has also other advantages!

Thanks folks

just be aware, that if your fiancée is following you, it's really better to get married as soon as possible, as you cannot live together out of wedlock in Qatar...

just little advice...sorry...

Cardozo, it depends on your background if it is good enough or not.

And if you are happy with the salary then go for it, but if you

believe you should be able to earn more then don't take it.

Remember Salaries in Qatar are low if you compare with Europe, North America and expat salaries in other parts of the world

housing you can get a flat for QR 10.000, if you dont have a medical you can apply a health card. With that card you can get a treatment from the government hospital.

Alternatively you can go private that will cost you an arm and a leg  ....

By Cardozo• 22 Apr 2008 19:53

... my concern is the housing and the medical... Is there a gvt coverage or should I require that?
