Giving instills a sense of satisfaction that no other deed provides. During the Holy month of Ramadan, Muslims and non-Muslims all around the world part-take in several generous charity drives that offer aid in the form of food, clothing, money, education, and much more.
One of the five pillars in Islam is Zakat which entails alms giving. According to the Islamic law, Muslims donate a fixed portion of their income to community members in need. Many rulers and wealthy Muslims build mosques, drinking fountains, hospitals, schools, and other institutions both as a religious duty and to secure the blessings associated with charity. This Ramadan 2022, Qatar has a number of charity drives where you can donate and help a person in need.

Zakat Fund
The Zakat Fund is a ministry of endowments and Islamic affairs department that collects Zakat and charity monies from the wealthy and distributes them to the poor and other Zakat banks, as well as asking the community to offer charity and donations. They also take part in increasing Zakat awareness through media efforts and specialized scientific conferences courses in Islamic law and jurisprudence are offered on a monthly basis, as well as regular courses on how to calculate corporate Zakat.

Qatar Charity
Formerly known as “The Committee of Qatar for Orphan Sponsorship” was formed due to the joint initiative of a group of Qatari philanthropists. Post eight years, an international NGO named “Qatar Charity” was set up to enhance the initiative’s impact and broaden its reach. Since the last few years, 29 million people have been helped because of Qatar Charity’s initiatives that include humanitarian and development projects amounting to a total cost of 1.2 billion US Dollars.
Qatar Charity (QC) launched the ‘Ramadan of Hope’ drive for the year 1443 AH – 2022 Ramadan, with the motive of benefiting more than two million people in 40 countries, including Qatar. The ‘Ramadan of Hope’ drive, with the support of philanthropists, aims to implement several seasonal projects and drives in Qatar during Ramadan to assist workers, low-income families and orphans.
Following are the projects that will be undertaken by Qatar Charity:
1) Seasonal projects:
A – Feed the fasting
This project will entail mobile iftar for workers, mobile iftar, iftar for expatriate communities, family iftar, Ramadan supply and giving water to worshippers.
B – Zakat-Al-Fitr
Aims to provide for low-income families.
C – Orphans and Children from low-income backgrounds will receive Eid Gifts
A certain amount of money is given to children from low-income families as well as to orphans as a gift, sponsored by Qatar Charity.
D – Ramadan Gift
This aims to provide financial assistance to low-income families before Ramadan.
E – Eid Clothing
The aim is to provide financial assistance to children from low-income families during Ramadan by providing them with the Eid clothes.
2)‘Alaqraboon’ Assistance
This is financial aid to assist those in debt and humanitarian cases facing emergency situations.
3)Cultural projects and Community Initiatives
These projects and initiatives include the following:
A – Initiatives Challenge-3
This is a humanitarian competition between various voluntary initiatives in Ramadan to creatively present the best community program.
B – Charity Kitchen
Through a kitchen allocated by Qatar Charity, Qataris and other prominent figures will organize Iftar meals that will be distributed amongs families that have low incomes.
C – Ramadan Box
This is a box designed by Qatar Charity that consists of activities and cultural information about Ramadan.
D – Khair Home
With the aim of promoting and instilling humanitarian support and values, a challenge among Qatari families is undertaken. Each family organizes a corner as a charitable exhibition where produced and ready-made materials will be sold. Friends and family are invited to part-take in this exhibition. The proceeds from which are later given up for charitable causes.
4) Ramadan Projects outside Qatar
The ‘Ramadan of Hope’ campaign, which is a QAR 33 million project is expected to assist 1.1 million people primarily focusing on crisis-hit regions and poverty-stricken communities.

Qatar Red Crescent
It was established in 1978 as Qatar’s first volunteering charitable organization. It aims to help and empower those most vulnerable devoid of any discrimination or partiality. This Ramadan 2022, their main projects entail providing assistance to Kosovo, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Mali, Lebanon, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Albania, Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Palestine and Gaza.

Eid Charity
The Sheikh Eid Charitable Foundation is a Qatari humanitarian organization that works to improve people's lives in Qatar and around the world. Apart from the above mentioned charitable institutions that you can donate too, another organization that undertakes similar initiatives is Wa'hab. It is a SME fighting food waste in Qatar. Wa'hab partners with restaurants and other food chains and helps in sponsoring Iftar and suhoor meals. All you need to do this Ramadan in order to part take in their initiative, is to head over to Family Food Center and sponsor a meal that they will have delivered to, on your behalf.
